Here, Igor is using his incredible nose to follow odor and systematically search the yard for his ball. Watching him stay focused, problem-solve, and work through the scent trail is a great reminder of just how powerful a dog's natural abilities are.

Nose work isn't just fun—it provides valuable mental enrichment, builds confidence, and allows dogs to tap into the instincts they were born with. Safe to say Igor was pretty proud of himself when he found his prize at the end and so were we! 🐶🎾💙

🌾 Foxtail Season Is Here – Protect Your Pup! 🐾

Foxtails may look harmless, but these dry grass seed heads can be extremely dangerous for dogs. Their barbed shape allows them to burrow into the skin, ears, eyes, nose, paws, and even deeper into the body, often requiring veterinary treatment or surgery to remove.

⚠️ Common signs of a foxtail injury: • Excessive paw licking or limping
• Head shaking or ear scratching
• Sneezing or nasal discharge
• Red, swollen, or irritated eyes
• Skin swelling, redness, or drainage

🐶 Prevention Tips: ✔️ Avoid areas with tall, dry grasses
✔️ Check your dog's paws, ears, eyes, and coat after walks
✔️ Keep fur trimmed between paw pads and around ears when appropriate
✔️ Seek veterinary care promptly if you suspect a foxtail has become embedded

Yesterday, Foster & Train pup Igor took a trip to Vacaville Animal Care Center for a much-needed veterinary exam.

During his first week with us, it became apparent that Igor was dealing with more than just a rough coat and excess weight. He was showing signs of significant discomfort, including symptoms consistent with a double ear infection and possible mouth pain.

The amazing staff at Vacaville Animal Care Center took their time with Igor and did a wonderful job helping him feel comfortable throughout his visit. Their exam confirmed that Igor is suffering from a double ear infection, which is already being actively treated. They also discovered that he has at least one broken tooth, and potentially additional damaged teeth, which are likely contributing to his discomfort.

The good news is that Igor is finally getting the care he deserves. While we continue treatment for his ears, he is also scheduled for a dental procedure next week, where the veterinary team will further assess his teeth and perform any necessary extractions.

☕🐾 Foster & Train pup Josie joined us for a café training session at one of our favorite local spots, Putah Creek Café!

Public outings like this are an important part of our Foster & Train program. While everyone loves practicing obedience cues, the real goal is teaching dogs how to simply exist calmly in the world. Josie worked on settling quietly at our feet, ignoring distractions, practicing good leash manners, and remaining relaxed around new people, sounds, smells, and activity.

For a young dog who spent months in the shelter environment, these experiences help build confidence, resilience, and the ability to navigate everyday life successfully.

We're so proud of the progress this sweet girl is making and can't wait to continue helping her prepare for her future family. ❤️

🐾 Camper Snow is back for a visit! 🐾

One of our favorite fluffy faces has returned for another stay at Ruff Pup Canine Academy! ❄️🤍

Snow settled right back into the routine like she never left—enjoying playtime, exploring the property, soaking up attention, and making herself right at home. We love seeing our boarding pups come back and feel comfortable, confident, and excited to be here.

We're looking forward to spending the next few days with this sweet girl and making sure her vacation is just as fun as her family's! 🐶💙

Please help us welcome our newest camper, 8-year-old Goldendoodle Bailey! 🐾💙

Bailey will be spending the week with us while her mom focuses on recovering from some medical challenges. We are happy to provide Bailey with a safe, comfortable, and fun place to stay while her family takes care of what matters most.

So far, Bailey has been settling in nicely, enjoying plenty of attention, exercise, and all the comforts of home. We look forward to making her stay as stress-free and enjoyable as possible until she is reunited with her mom.
