🌟April: Heartworm Awareness Month🌟

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition caused by parasitic worms transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. Even indoor pets are at risk—mosquitoes can easily make their way into homes.

Once infected, heartworms can live in the heart, lungs, and surrounding blood vessels, causing lasting damage to a pet’s health. The good news? Heartworm disease is entirely preventable with consistent use of monthly heartworm prevention and regular testing.

Why annual testing matters:
Heartworm disease can develop silently, with few or no signs until it becomes advanced. Routine testing helps ensure we catch it early—when it’s most treatable—and confirms your pet is protected.

This month only:
Purchase a full year of heartworm prevention and receive two months FREE. It’s a simple way to safeguard your pet’s health and save on essential care.

Call us today to schedule your pet’s heartworm test or talk with our team about which prevention option best suits their lifestyle. Protecting your pet from heartworm disease is simple, safe, and essential—especially here in Florida, where mosquitoes are active year-round.

Prevention is easy. Heartworm disease is not.

🐾 April Pet of the Month: Otis 🐾

This month, we’re celebrating a true warrior — Otis 💛

Otis was recently diagnosed with lymphoma, but that hasn’t dimmed his spirit one bit. He’s currently undergoing the CHOP chemotherapy protocol at UF Oncology (), and we are SO proud of how well he’s doing. Through every visit, treatment, and check-in, Otis continues to be the sweetest, bravest boy.

His courage, resilience, and tail wags are nothing short of inspiring. He’s a reminder to all of us that even in tough times, love, strength, and a positive attitude can shine through. 💪🐶

Otis, you’ve captured all of our hearts — keep being amazing! 💙

Meet Mabel – A Sweet Senior Looking for Her Forever Home!
Mabel is a 13-year-old mixed breed with a heart as big as her personality! 💕 She’s the sweetest girl—spunky, affectionate, and always ready to brighten your day. Despite her age, she still has plenty of love (and zoomies!) to give.
- Spayed & Fully Vaccinated
- Recently Had Her Annual Wellness Exam – Healthy with the exception of some dental tartar and calculus
- Potty Trained & Well-Mannered
- Loves People & Ready to Be Your Best Friend
Mabel’s current owners, who love her dearly, are elderly and can no longer care for a large-breed dog. She’s looking for a warm, loving home where she can continue to thrive.
Could you be the one to give Mabel the golden years she deserves? If you’re interested in meeting this sweet senior, please reach out!

February is National Pet Dental Health Month! Just like us, our pets need regular dental care to prevent painful gum disease, infections, and other health issues.

Routine anesthetic dental cleanings allow us to properly remove tartar, check for hidden problems, and keep your pet’s mouth in top shape. But daily at-home care is just as important! Brushing your pet’s teeth, and using VOHC-approved dental products all help maintain a healthy mouth between cleanings. Check out our blog post on our website to learn more about dental health! (https://tuscawillavet.com/benefits-of-routine-dental-care/)

To celebrate, we’re offering 20% off dental cleanings this February! 🦷 If you haven’t booked yet, give us a call to join our standby list in case of cancellations. Let’s work together to keep those tails wagging and those teeth sparkling!

December is Safe Gifts & Toys Month! 🐾❤️🎄

The holiday season is here, and while we're busy spoiling our furry friends, let’s make sure their gifts bring joy—not trouble!

🎄 Here are a few tips for pet-safe gifts:

🐾 Avoid small parts or pieces that could be a choking hazard.
🐾 Choose durable toys made for pets—watch out for strings, ribbons, yarn, or squeakers that could be swallowed!
🐾 Stick to vet-approved treats that are safe for sensitive stomachs.
🐾 Consider ID tags or microchip updates to give the gift of safety!
Let’s keep the holidays merry, bright, and safe for our four-legged family members! Share a photo of your pets enjoying their holiday haul with us—we’d love to see those wagging tails and purring faces! 🐕🐾🐈

Special shoutout to (on instagram) for taking this photo of our adorable patient, Bijou!

A Heartfelt Request to Our Clients:

At Tuscawilla Animal Hospital, we care deeply for each and every one of our patients, and our team works tirelessly to provide them with the best care possible. However, it’s important to acknowledge that our staff and veterinarians face incredibly difficult situations, especially when navigating emergencies or high-demand periods. It is disheartening when clients respond by yelling, berating our team, or accusing them of dishonesty when delays occur due to these unpredictable emergencies.

We want to extend our sincere gratitude to the wonderful clients who treat our staff with kindness and respect. Your understanding and positive attitudes truly make a difference. You help us continue practicing high-quality veterinary medicine, and we cannot thank you enough.

That said, we kindly ask all clients to remember that mistreating our staff goes against our conduct policy. We want to ensure a respectful environment for both our team and our clients. Unfortunately, if this behavior occurs, we may have to terminate the veterinary-client-patient relationship.

Lastly, verbal abuse not only hurts our team emotionally but also makes it incredibly difficult to retain the skilled staff needed to care for your pets. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a respectful, compassionate, and professional environment for everyone.

We want to express our sincere gratitude to all of our clients who take the time to leave us a positive review online. Your positive feedback means so much to our doctors and our staff, and knowing that we have made a positive difference for you and your pets keeps us motivated to continue providing the best care possible.

Thank you for your understanding and for trusting us with your pets' care. 💙🐾

Join us in thanking Kyle, Amy, Effy, Jocelyn, Kaishlynn, Jess, and Emily for their hard work, dedication, and love for all the pets they care for. We are so grateful for all that you do! 🙌

Hurricane Safety Tips for Pet Owners 🐾

With hurricane season upon us, it’s important to have a plan in place for the whole family—including our furry friends. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe:

1. Prepare a Pet Emergency Kit: Include food, water, medications, leash, carrier, waste bags, and any comfort items (like a favorite toy or blanket). Make sure to call us today to get any last minute medication refills that may be needed during the storm!
2. ID and Microchip: Make sure your pet has an updated ID tag and microchip information, in case you get separated. Please put your pet's Rabies tag on them, as this has our clinic's name and number and your pet's unique ID number.
3. Find Pet-Friendly Shelters: Research nearby shelters and hotels that are pet-friendly, and have a list of options ready in case of home damage.
4. Keep Them Close: Never leave your pets behind or outside during the storm. Keep them indoors, secure, and calm.
5. Create a safe space indoors: Set up a quiet, enclosed area for your pet to reduce anxiety.
6. Pack Your Pet’s Health Records: Have up-to-date vaccination records and emergency contact numbers.

We’re wishing all of our clients and their pets safety during the storm. 💙

🐾✨ October Pet of the Month: Dash! ✨🐾

Say hello to Dash, our October Pet of the Month! 🐶 Two months ago, Dash suffered a fracture of both his radius and ulna. After dedicated care from his dads and time in a cast, we’re happy to share that Dash’s fractures have healed beautifully, and he’s officially cast-free! 🩺💙

A fun tidbit about Dash—he was a star in the Puppy Bowl! 🏆🐾 We can’t wait to see Dash run and play once again now that he’s cast free. We couldn’t be more proud of his recovery!

Way to go, Dash! 🐾👏
