Winona Area Humane Society (WAHS) is a nonprofit animal shelter organization located in Winona, MN! Kennel License .

WAHS is a licensed and inspected kennel through the Minnesota Board of Animal Health. WAHS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter organization located in Winona, MN. We do not receive any state or federal funding - so our operations are largely made possible through generous contributions, fundraising, and adoption/surrender fees. We are a small but bustling humane society with a passion for helping every animal that we can. Our facility offers open bay housing for cats, medical treatment rooms, large & small dog kennels, and outdoor runs, plus walking routes for dogs. Our organization operates on an appointment-only basis for adoptions, animal visits, and volunteering opportunities. Potential best fit adoption matches are contacted to set up a meeting time! Building Hours (by appointment):
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday - 12:00pm to 5:00pm

Sunday and Monday - closed

It’s a very special thing to witness two souls connecting when they need each other most. Sweet N Low (now George) had just arrived when his future adopter came in to meet available cats, and their bond instantly formed. Congratulations to both of them as they settle into life together!

Black Cat Day wouldn’t be complete without a spotlight on our most distinguished senior lady: Trea! Trea is 15 years old and has been in our care for a little over 1 year now.

While she waits for that best fit family to come along, Trea’s enjoying a foster home stay where she expresses her full personality, leans into her snuggly side, curls up with her foster mom at night, and even recently took in new sights within her pet stroller!

Trea deserves all the comforts in her golden years: a pet-free home to soak up the attention, a person who welcomes a nighttime cuddlebug, and plenty of cozy lounging options.

Or an even better way to show them some love for life – apply to meet one 🖤 From 3 months to 15 years old, there are numerous mini house panthers waiting to go home and they’d fit right into a wide variety of family settings.

Summer may have ended, but kitten season rages on. Over the last few weeks, a number of orphaned bottle babies, medically complex kitten cases, and moms with newborns have entered our foster network (thank you to every lifesaving foster home who makes this possible!), in addition to the many adoptable kittens that still await families. With a wide variety of caregiving situations happening at once, supplies are quickly dwindling – but your help could make all the difference!

To care for this kitten boom, essential support includes:

▪️ Fancy Feast Kitten
▫️ Bottle-feeding kits & Miracle Ni***es
▪️ Bleach for cleaning (not low-splash)
