WAHS is a licensed and inspected kennel through the Minnesota Board of Animal Health. WAHS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter organization located in Winona, MN. We do not receive any state or federal funding - so our operations are largely made possible through generous contributions, fundraising, and adoption/surrender fees. We are a small but bustling humane society with a passion

for helping every animal that we can. Our facility offers open bay housing for cats, medical treatment rooms, large & small dog kennels, and outdoor runs, plus walking routes for dogs. Our organization operates on an appointment-only basis for adoptions, animal visits, and volunteering opportunities. Potential best fit adoption matches are contacted to set up a meeting time! Building Hours (by appointment):
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday - 12:00pm to 5:00pm
Saturday - 10:00am to 2:00pm
Sunday and Monday - closed

Thank you to the Lake Winona Manor Therapeutic Recreation team for inviting us to be part of the Lake Winona Manor Parade 🎉 Canine attendees Dozer and Vin put their best paws forward, made lots of friends, and brought great joy to the residents 🩵 It was an honor to walk alongside the other parade participants and put smiles on so many faces during this special annual tradition!

Supplies with asterisks are most urgent. For anyone able to donate bleach, a daily cleaning essential, any brand is fine as long as it’s not low-splash.

Do you have a pet on prescription food? We may be able to help! Right now our shelter has a LOT of prescription cat & dog food types that don’t match current animals’ needs, and we’d really like to help get it to family pets who can use it. If you have an up-to-date veterinary prescription for pet food, contact our office with any questions about the process and to see if we have the food available!

On Saturday, Willie Nelson set off on his next adventure — to a forever home!

Earlier this year, Willie Nelson returned to the shelter as a senior after being adopted several years ago. His new adopter had found her beloved previous cat companions here at WAHS, so it was very fitting that they crossed paths with each other and formed a bond. Truly a meant-to-be moment.
