Felix the German Shepherd had a big adjustment ahead of him. After spending the last five years in West Africa—far from strange dogs and the bustle of a busy city—he suddenly found himself in downtown Arlington. The overstimulation hit hard, and Felix began reacting to other dogs in ways his family hadn’t seen before.

It was clear he couldn’t just be dropped into this new environment. He needed structure, confidence, and a plan. We put in countless obedience reps and counter-conditioning sessions, gradually exposing him to more and more stimulus while teaching him what was—and wasn’t—acceptable behavior.

Violet, like many Goldens, has never met a stranger—and she brought that same enthusiasm into every room she entered. Unfortunately, her excitement led to some risky behaviors. Lily’s family came to us needing serious help. After being attacked by another dog, Lily decided that barking, lunging, and raising hell was the only way to deal with any dog she saw. Her family tried to manage it by avoiding other dogs altogether—unintentionally reinforcing her behavior. It worked for Lily, but it wasn’t working for anyone else.

Tripp came to us after previous training elsewhere, but he was still taking his mom for walks—dangerous, given that she relies on a cane for balance. On top of that, he was highly reactive to kids, dogs, squirrels—basically anything that moved—making every outing a serious risk. He had also become collar-wise, associating the e-collar with only negative experiences due to directional-only training.

But today, Tripp went home a different dog.

On his walk through the neighborhood, he didn’t pull. He stayed neutral around squirrels, strange dogs, and even kids riding bikes. He followed commands calmly and confidently—and just as important, he was still his sweet, affectionate self.
