We have some heart-warming updates to share! All of our recently transported dogs, cats, and bunnies have officially landed and settled into their foster homes.

But the news gets even better... some have already found their forever families! 🎉

Our hearts are so full watching these sweet souls go from life in the kennel to life on the couch. This life-saving work is a massive team effort, and we couldn't do it without our incredible rescue and vet teams local and afar!

Thank you for helping us complete these love stories and giving these animals the second chance they deserve.

Coco has been a resident at Animal Harbor for a long time. While she’s enjoyed her stay, she’s officially decided that "Shelter Dog" is no longer the career path for her. For 2026, Coco is looking to transition into a Senior Executive Life Coach role in a permanent home.

Her 2026 "Work" Resolutions include:

Office Morale Booster: She plans to sit at your feet during Zoom calls to remind you that life is better when treats are involved.

Safety Inspector: She will personally investigate every delivery box that arrives at the front door.

Chief Wellness Officer: Coco is committed to ensuring you get your daily dose of fresh air!

The Reality: While we joke about Coco’s "job" here, but the truth is, she’s been waiting for her big break for far too long. She has watched so many other dogs get hired by families while she remains "on the clock" at the kennel.

Coco is loyal, resilient, and more than ready to put in her two-week notice here and move into your heart.

Let’s make 2026 the year she finally get promoted into a loving home.

Hi friends,

I want to share something close to my heart with you today.

Most of the time, we use social media to celebrate the highlight reel: the joyful adoptions, the funny moments, the fun events, the advocacy, and the “after” pictures we all love and live for. And don't get me wrong, we love sharing those with you. We want to keep you close to our mission.

But behind the scenes, there’s a lot of steady, quiet and unseen work that makes all of that joy possible. And that work is fueled by monthly givers. We call them Life Preservers, and they are the ones who keep the Harbor light burning every single day of the year.

At the end of 2025, we set a goal to welcome 30 new Life Preservers. Thanks to an amazing group of supporters, we reached 26.

We’re so close.

And now, we’re turning to you our social media community to help us close the gap.

53 lives. One incredible night. 🌙✨

Tonight, Animal Harbor served as the launchpad for 53 precious souls heading to their new lives in Wisconsin! 🚐

From soft bunny noses to happy tail wags, the shelter was overflowing with hope.

Being the hub for this mission was a true blessing. These animals came together from across our regional rescue community, and we are so proud to work alongside these organizations and individuals to prepare them for the open arms waiting for them at their destination.

Jovi and Houser both began their lives in the shadows of the streets, survivors with no one to lean on. Their lives changed thanks to the great people who stepped up to rescue them, but their paths to healing looked very different.

Jovi became a familiar face at the shelter. As a long-term resident, Jovi was our steady anchor—patiently waiting, day after day, for the right moment and the right person. While other cats found homes, Jovi stayed, growing in confidence through the steady love of the shelter staff.

Houser, meanwhile, went into a dedicated foster home. There, in a quiet environment, Houser learned how to trade street instincts for head scratches and sunny naps, thriving under the one-on-one care of a foster family.

When Houser returned to the shelter from foster care, destiny stepped in. Despite their different journeys, these two connected instantly. They bonded over their shared history, creating a sweet friendship that made the shelter feel less like a waiting room and more like a home. Houser brought the lessons of foster life, and Jovi provided the steady companionship of a seasoned friend.

We are so happy to say that today, their wait is officially over. Jovi and Houser are finally leaving the shelter walls behind.

Together, they are continuing their journey to a safe and loving forever home. Two cats who once had no one now have the most important things in the world: a family of their own and each other.

After 6+ months of waiting for his perfect match, we are overjoyed to announce that our sweet Barnacle Boy has officially set sail for his forever home! 🌊✨

This adoption is extra special because his new dad is longtime supporter and friend of the shelter, Ted. We couldn't have asked for a better human to guide this boy into his next chapter.
While we’ll miss seeing his face every day, we are so happy to hear that he’ll be going by Barney—a cute, cozy spin on his shelter name that fits his personality perfectly! 🐾

Selene isn’t really into the "New Year, New Me" hype. Why? Because she’s already reached peak perfection.

She’s spent the last 11 months at the shelter perfecting her routine, and she’s 100% committed to her 2026 goals:

Professional Napping: She is currently scouting for a queen-sized bed (or a very plush sofa) to take her talents to the professional level. 💤

Personal Training: She promises to get you hit your step goal every single day—squirrel-watching breaks included at no extra charge. 🐾

Finding Her "Forever": The person who doesn't mind a little dog hair, a lot of loyalty, and a lifetime of gratitude.

The Serious Side: While we love her dearly, Selene has spent nearly a year behind bars. 11 months of loud hallways and concrete floors is a long time for a soul as sweet as hers. We are desperate to see her finally exhale and realize she’s safe at home.

She’s been patient. She’s been brave. Now, she just needs you.

After a much‑needed holiday break, Animal Harbor is officially reopening all community programs this week. We are stepping into 2026 with renewed energy, deep gratitude, and a shared commitment to saving lives and strengthening our community.

First, thank you. To our supporters, donors, volunteers, adopters, fosters, and friends: you make this work possible. Your compassion fuels every rescue, every adoption, every second chance. Because of you, we are able to continue this life‑saving mission into the new year, and we are profoundly grateful.

We also want to recognize our incredible staff, who work tirelessly year‑round to manage all the programs and care for the animals who depend on us. This time away allowed them to rest, reflect, plan, and prepare for the rising needs we expect in 2026. Their dedication is the heartbeat of Animal Harbor, and we are so thankful for their commitment.

🐾 What to Expect as We Reopen Community Programs
While we did our best to keep up with calls and voicemails during the break, we know many messages have accumulated. As we work through this backlog, please expect delays in response times. We also anticipate higher call volume than usual, so wait times may be longer. We appreciate your patience and kindness as our team works hard to get everyone taken care of.

🐾Community Programs Resume This Week
All community services — including spay/neuter appointments and TNR — are reopening as normal.
🐾 Scheduled intake will continue as planned.

Your support during this transition means the world to us. Thank you for standing with us, believing in our mission, and helping us start 2026 with hope and momentum. We can’t wait to see what we accomplish together this year.

Captain has found his co-pilots! 🐾

We are over the moon to announce that Captain has officially headed off on his foster-to-adopt trial with the wonderful Sitz family!

Captain captured our hearts the moment he arrived, and seeing him settle in with a family that already loves him is everything we hoped for. We have a feeling this "trial" is just the beginning of a lifetime of head scritches and cozy naps.

Fair winds and following seas, Captain! We can’t wait to hear about your adventures with the Sitzes. ⛵️❤️
