Is it possible to have too many kitty snuggles and good books? We think not! 😻📚

We've been absolutely blown away by the love you've shown at our Paws and Pages events this summer! Whether you were here for the snuggles or the stories, you brought so much joy, and the kitties want you back!

Trust us, no one wants your litter of kittens and puppies.

Pet homes in our community are at capacity. Our community is bringing far more new animals into the world than people are willing to adopt, creating a serious bottleneck of unwanted pets.

It's time for this to stop 🛑.

Adoption or transporting animals elsewhere will not solve this problem. Only spaying and neutering will. For the love of animals, please do the right thing and get your pets fixed.

Here are some common myths about spaying and neutering that need to be cleared up:

❌Myth: My female pet needs to have one litter or go through her first heat cycle.
✅ Fact: Medical evidence shows that spaying your pet before her first heat cycle offers the best protection against uterine infections and mammary tumors. There are no known health benefits to letting an animal have a litter.

❌Myth: Spaying or neutering will change my pet's personality.
✅Fact: The procedure does not change a pet's personality. It may, however, reduce unwanted behaviors like roaming, marking territory, and aggression.

❌Myth: My children need to see the miracle of birth.
✅Fact: The real miracle is finding a loving home for the animals already here. Bring your kids to the local animal shelter to volunteer and let them see the real consequences of pet overpopulation.

Stop the cycle. Spay and neuter your pets.

A Spooktacular Paws and Pages Event is Coming!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Paws and Pages event this past Saturday! We had a fantastic time with 26 readers and cat lovers who filled our cat wing with so much love and support. It means the world to us to see our community come together like this.

You've asked, and we've listened! Get ready for a special Halloween-themed Paws and Pages event coming this October. We can't wait to see you all and share some spooky stories with our feline friends.

We had so much fun that we completely forgot to take photos on Saturday! If you or your family snapped any pictures, we'd be so grateful if you'd share them in the comments below.

The recent animal rescue in Grundy County is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together as a community. Within just a few days, nearly all the dogs and cats have been safely removed from the property and are now receiving the care they desperately need. We are sending positive vibes and prayers to our rescue friends who are trying to safely trap and remove the remaining dogs that are terrified at large.

At Animal Harbor, we were able to play a small but crucial role in this ongoing effort. This weekend, our friends at MARC (Marion Animal Resource Connection) went up to get those left behind, with us on standby as they went to access the situation. They successfully helped rescue three presumed siblings, with two going into MARC's care and the third being taken directly by a vet. That third pup, heartbreakingly close to death, immediately tested positive for Parvo.

Once MARC received this devastating news, they reached out to us for help. Their facility was already at capacity, and their amazing foster families couldn't risk exposing their own animals to Parvo. Luckily, our isolation unit became available just in time after another pup in our care received a medical release. These two are now at our shelter and being closely monitored.

While this story is a beautiful example of our rescue community coming together to do amazing things, it's also a stark reminder of the lack of resources for both people and animals in our Middle Tennessee communities.

Many organizations, including ours, are already stretched thin, and every day is a battle. We desperately need more support from our leadership and local governments.

This crisis—and many others like it—will continue to happen and pile up, putting even more stress on non-profits that are already struggling. Now is the time to use your voice for good. You can make a difference and demand better. You can ask your local leaders the hard questions and make your vote count.

Together, let's get serious about advocating for better support and resources. No animal deserves to suffer.

It's not every day we get a bunny intake, but when we do we hop for joy 🐇❤️

While we primarily focus on dogs and cats, we are always happy to help other critters when we have an immediate foster and placement lined up.

This bunny won't be available for adoption but we thought we would share the sweetest bunny in town!

Bringing a bunny home can be a wonderful experience, but it's important to be prepared!

They have specific needs that can sometimes make them a challenging pet. Bunnies require a lot more space than just a small cage, needing room to hop, run, and play. They also have a very specific diet that includes unlimited hay, fresh greens, and a limited amount of pellets.

Additionally, bunnies can produce dander, which can be an issue for people with allergies. If you're considering a rabbit, please do your research to ensure you can provide them with the long-term care they need to thrive!

Like all pets- be sure to do your research to know what kind and breed of pet is best for you!

Zelda was hit by a car. Her owner asked for euthanasia. But compassion — and YOUR support — gave her a different ending.

Tonight, our hearts are full! ❤️ It's transport night for 14 lucky pooches and purrs from Animal Harbor.

We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated team who made this happen, to all the amazing volunteers and staff who poured so much love into these animals, the receiving rescues, and to our outcome coordinator's husband who always lovingly accepts a transport date night! 🤣

We can't wait to see the bright futures that await these sweet souls. 😸🐕

While we love sharing the happy endings of adopted pets, today we want to shine a light on the work that prevents animals from ever needing our shelter in the first place.
