One new bird can bring in more than just fresh genetics.
Parasites (including lice, mites, and worms), respiratory illness, and disease donโt care how healthy a bird looks when it arrives. Stress from transport and a new environment can bring hidden problems to the surface.
A couple months of quarantine can save you a lot of headaches, heartache, and flock-wide problems.

After a month of quarantine, I place one of my own birds in the quarantine pen with the newcomer for another month. It gives me one more opportunity to observe both birds before exposing my flock.
