Horses are obligate nasal breathers — their soft palate seals off the mouth completely. A horse physically cannot gasp through its mouth, no matter how hard it's working.

Which is why anything blocking a nostril is an emergency, not a "watch it and see." No backup system.

A horse won't go flat on the ground unless it trusts what's around it. Everything in them says stay standing, stay ready, stay able to run.

That's most of us, most of the time.

He's not just leading you somewhere safe. He is the safe place.

He thinks he's brushing a horse. He's not. He's learning to notice — where she's sore, where she leans in, when she's had enough. Care and connection. Two things God asks of us long before He asks anything else.

Open paddock spots at Twisted Bit Ranch. 🐴

We keep things small on purpose. That means your horse gets individualized care, real turnout, and someone who actually knows their quirks, their feed schedule, and exactly how they like to be greeted in the morning.

A few premium spots just opened up — if you’ve been waiting for a boarding home that treats your horse like one of our own, now’s the time.

We’ve all seen the big barns where every horse gets the same two flakes of hay regardless of their needs. At Twisted Bit Ranch, we think that’s a little backwards.

"Customized care" isn’t a marketing buzzword, it’s what we do at 6 a.m. when the coffee’s fresh and the Hill Country mist is still on the grass. It means we actually know your horse’s "normal."

Real care looks like:
✅ Grain measured by body condition and workload, not just "one scoop for all."
✅ Turnout schedules that respect herd dynamics and forage quality.
✅ Blanketing based on the thermometer and your horse’s coat, not just the calendar.

Every horse is a living soul with their own quirks (and yes, we know exactly who rolls in the mud five minutes after a bath). Whether they need a forage-first diet or extra TLC after an arena session, we’ve got them. It’s peace of mind for you and a steady, quiet home for them.

Want to see what a tailored plan looks like? Shoot us a message or schedule a visit. Come see the Hill Country home your horse has been waiting for.

If the Texas fly season wasn't already a full-time job, we’ve got an uninvited guest trying to crash the party.

The New World Screwworm is back in the states, and they have zero manners. Unlike the usual maggots that just clean up dead tissue, these larvae burrow straight into living flesh. There’ve been nine cases in Texas and New Mexico so far, mostly in cattle and goats, but it’s only a matter of time before they find a horse to bother.

Check your herd for:
🔹 Wounds that suddenly look worse
🔹 Anything with a foul smell or weird drainage
🔹 Visible burrowing (yes, it’s as gross as it sounds)
🔹 Swelling around surgical sites or foal navels

If you see something that looks "off," holler at your vet immediately. Let’s keep our Hill Country herds safe.
