Let’s Talk About the Sploot!

Ever seen your pet lay flat on their belly with their back legs stretched out like a little frog? That, friends, is called a sploot—and it’s totally normal (and totally adorable)!

Some pets, especially cats and dogs with flexible hips, love to sploot when they’re feeling relaxed, comfy, or trying to cool off. You’ll often see it on cooler floors or sunny patches of tile.

So why do pets sploot?

🦴 It’s comfortable for some animals—especially young or flexible ones

🧊 It helps cool their bellies on hot days

🧘 It can be a sign they feel safe and relaxed in their space

🥕 And sometimes… it just feels good to stretch those legs out!

Not all pets sploot—and that’s okay, too! Every animal has their own way of getting comfy.

If your pet suddenly starts laying this way and it seems stiff or uncomfortable, or if they show signs of pain, it’s worth checking in with your vet just to be safe.

Otherwise? Snap a picture and soak up the cuteness. A sploot is just one more way our furry friends keep us smiling. 😍

Have a splooter at home? Share a pic in the comments—we never get tired of those silly sprawled-out legs!

We wanted to remind everyone that fawn season is in full swing here in Wimberley! We came across this tiny fawn (and two of her friends!) during a recent dog walk. 🥰

This time of year, you might spot a fawn lying still in tall grass, tucked under a bush, or even out in the open—seemingly all alone. But don’t worry—that’s normal! Mother deer often leave their babies hidden while they forage nearby, and they come back later.

If you’re walking your dog or letting them out into your fenced yard, here are a few things to keep in mind:

• Fawns are often very still and can be hard to spot—so stay alert, especially near woodsy or grassy areas.

• Keep your dog on a leash during walks and supervise yard time.

• Never approach or touch a fawn. Their best chance of survival is to be left alone.

• If a mother deer feels her baby is threatened, she can charge—and stomp. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s something to be aware of, especially with off-leash or curious dogs.

So, what should you do if you come across a fawn?

✅ Move away calmly and quietly.
✅ Leash your dog (if not already leashed).
✅ Give the fawn space and don’t try to “help” it—it’s not abandoned!
✅ If you’re truly concerned (injured animal, clear signs of danger), call a licensed wildlife rehabber or your local animal control.

With just a little extra awareness, we can protect our pets and the beautiful wildlife we love in Wimberley.

This was the scene last week when I arrived to walk a pup we hadn’t seen in over a year. Her family has been working hard to help her build confidence, but we weren’t sure if I’d even make it past the front door.

Spoiler alert: she came around, and we had a great walk!

If you have a nervous or reactive dog, one of the best ways we can support you is by starting while you’re still home. We’ll introduce your pet to a dedicated sitter, and once trust is built, gradually introduce others—so your pup learns that visits from people = good things.

This approach doesn’t just help for future pet sitting or dog walks—it helps reduce stress for both pets and their people.

Let’s work together to create a plan that supports your dog’s progress in a Fear Free way. Message us to get started!

📣Why You Should Become a Client Before You Need Us

We recently met a sweet family who scheduled a meet-and-greet… but when we got there, they told us they didn’t actually need us that weekend. Their relatives were staying over and would be handling the pets.

But here’s the part that stuck with us:
They said they just wanted to go ahead and onboard anyway—because life happens.

Last-minute trips. Late nights in Austin. Emergencies.

And let’s be honest… they were getting tired of bugging their neighbor every time.

The funniest part?

They shared a story about their dog digging under the fence and escaping. They had to text their neighbor mid-chaos to let her back in. 😬

We joked that when you onboard with us, you have more than a dozen extra sets of eyes to watch Facebook postings for lost (and found) dogs to get your furry friend home safely!

Becoming a client doesn’t necessarily mean you’re booking us right now.
It just means you’re ready when something comes up. You have a team you trust, already familiar with your pets and your routine.

You can request visits in our app with just a few taps.

No more neighbor guilt. No more scrambling. No more fence-jumping dog panic. 🙃

🐾 Want to go ahead and get set up with us?

We’ll come meet your pets, help you get onboarded, and you’ll be ready for anything—vacations, late nights, or a surprise tunnel-digging mission.

Send us a message or visit our website to get started. 💛

Your future self (and your neighbor) will thank you. 😊

Congrats to our Pet of the Week, Teddy Bear! We were sold the minute we met this sweet boy! He may take a few minutes to trust that you’re his friend, but once he does, he’s your best buddy for life! His interests include vigorous games of “tug-of-war”, chomping on fresh grass, and standing up to give hugs!

Teddy Bear is as cuddly as his name implies, and we’re so glad we know him.

Worried about gates? We’ve got it covered.

We know that for many pet parents, gates are a big source of anxiety—especially if you’ve got an adventurous pup or a latch that doesn’t always behave. Whether it’s a tricky closure, a low fence, or just general concern, we totally understand the worry.

That’s why we’re always happy to double-check your gates—and even snap a photo to include in your visit report. That way, you can see for yourself that everything is secure before we leave.

Your peace of mind matters to us. When you trust us with your pets and your home, we want you to feel just as safe and comfortable as your animals do.

Need a little extra reassurance? Just ask—we’re always happy to go the extra mile (or gate 😉) to help you feel confident in our care.

You might think our job is all about puppy kisses and kitty cuddles. And that’s for sure a part of it! 🙏

But we also do our fair share of scooping litter boxes, cleaning up diarrhea and scrubbing dishes.

We here at Puppy Love Pet Sitting are here for it all—the snuggles AND the chores. We take pride in a job well done, and happy pets and pet parents!

Let’s talk litter boxes.

At Puppy Love Pet Sitting, one of our long-standing policies is to scoop the litter box every single day that we visit—no exceptions.

Some clients tell us they don’t usually scoop daily themselves, and occasionally, we even show up to a home with no scoop at all! That’s why we equip every team member with a sturdy metal scoop—so we’re always prepared to give your cat the clean space they deserve.

Why is daily scooping so important?

🐾 Cats are fastidious by nature. A dirty litter box can stress them out and lead to accidents outside the box.

🐾 Odor builds up fast. Especially in multi-cat homes or warm climates like ours.

🐾 It helps us monitor their health. Changes in urine or stool can be early signs of illness, and we want to catch anything unusual while you’re away.

🐾 It’s just more comfortable. Imagine having to navigate a used litter box every time nature calls—no thanks! I don’t even like it when one of my kids neglects to flush! 😅

We know that keeping pets happy means caring for every detail, even the not-so-glamorous ones. At Puppy Love Pet Sitting, we use our years of experience to share knowledge and tend to the little details that might be missed by someone with less practice. It’s all part of how we provide thoughtful, reliable care—right down to the clean litter box (and pics attached to your report, so you can confirm this important chore was tended to).

At Puppy Love Pet Sitting, we’ve been around long enough to know that when it comes to pets, the unexpected is just part of the job.

Over the years, we’ve developed thoughtful policies based on real experiences—all designed to keep the pets we care for (and their people!) safe and supported, and to help our sitters feel confident in every situation.

One of those policies? We generally don’t leave pets unattended in the yard.

There are occasional exceptions—like when there’s a mess to clean and we don’t want your dog walking through it—but for the most part, if your pet is outside, we’re right there with them. Why? Because we’ve seen what can happen.

✅ Small dogs can be vulnerable to predators
✅ Gates might be left open by contractors or lawn crews
✅ Diggers can find their way out faster than you’d think
✅ And then there’s this guy in the photo—Squirt here didn’t even hesitate to walk right through the bars of the fence, even with us standing nearby! Luckily, we were able to scoop him up right away.

At Puppy Love, our policies are based on experience—not just ideas. We learn from every pet, every visit, and every adventure. And we use that knowledge to create the best, safest experience possible for your pets and our team.

Congratulations to our Pet of the Week, Mars! He always has us laughing with his antics. His favorite hobbies are dominating games of fetch (much to the chagrin of his brother), sneaking away to destroy a tennis ball, and backing up for rump scratches.

We always have fun when we visit this goofy lovebug!
