Every picture we take of Kevin is the epitome of pure joy. He always dons his signature grin.
But can dogs can actually “smile”? The answer is… kind of. What we usually think of as a smile is actually part of a dog’s body language. A relaxed mouth, soft eyes, loose posture, and happy energy are all signs that a dog feels safe, comfortable, and content. Kevin is a great example of that. He is genuinely one of the happiest dogs we know, and it shows in every picture.
At Puppy Love, understanding body language is a huge part of how we care for pets. In fact, one of the lessons all new hires complete during training is focused specifically on dog and cat body language. We want our team to recognize the difference between a pet who is relaxed and enjoying attention versus one who may be feeling nervous, overstimulated, fearful, or uncomfortable. Especially because those signs can often be subtle and misunderstood.
Animals are communicating with us all the time. Learning how to read those signals is key in helping us provide safer, kinder, more personalized care for every pet we visit.
And then there are dogs like Kevin, who make communication very easy by looking delighted about absolutely everything. 😁
