We’re excited to announce Daniel Boruta, DVM, DACVAA, as Medical Director of Points East Veterinary Specialty Hospital of Wilmington, opening this November.

A board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist with nearly two decades of experience, Boruta joins Melissa Stoll, DVM, DACVS, and Paige Harrington, DVM, bringing together three veterinary leaders whose relationships and collaborations span years.

Having a board-certified anesthesiologist as Medical Director from day one reflects the level of specialty care this team is building in Wilmington.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. John Scully to AVL Animal Urgent Care!

Born and raised in Asheville, Dr. Scully is excited to help provide timely veterinary care in the community he calls home. After earning his veterinary degree from the University of Minnesota, he gained experience in general practice, emergency medicine, and surgery. His time throughout Western North Carolina also showed him the need for an urgent care option that could bridge the gap between busy general practices and 24-hour emergency hospitals.

Outside of work, Dr. Scully enjoys traveling, fly fishing, and spending time in the mountains with his wife and baby boy.

We're glad to have him on the AVL Animal Urgent Care team.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Samantha Davern to the Vets Pets family and to Points East Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Fayetteville!

Her path to veterinary medicine included hands-on research and an internship in the veterinary laboratory at the Alaska SeaLife Center, where she developed a deep interest in animal health and pathology, experience that translates well to the fast-paced world of emergency medicine.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Davern enjoys painting, crafting, reading, hiking, and traveling. At home, she and her wife, Katy, share their lives with Benji, their beloved pit bull mix.

We're glad to have you, Dr. Davern.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Ethan Abrams to the Vets Pets family and to AVL Animal Urgent Care!

After years practicing emergency medicine, critical care, and general practice across the country, Dr. Abrams chose Asheville because he saw a need for more accessible urgent care for pets and their families.

When Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, our new hospital was only weeks away from opening. The building was flooded, the project was stripped back to the shell, and opening was put on hold. Through it all, Dr. Abrams never wavered. He remained committed to Asheville and to bringing this much-needed service to the community.

This month, that commitment became reality. AVL Animal Urgent Care officially opened its doors, with Dr. Abrams leading the team in providing same-day and walk-in care for pets when they need it most.

We're proud to have him here. And we're grateful to be part of what Asheville is rebuilding.

This week’s review recognizes Dr. Howland and the team at White Oak Veterinary Hospital! 🐾

“We have been patients at White Oak Veterinary Hospital for about four years now, and we truly can’t say enough good things about them.

The entire team is attentive, kind, and genuinely caring. You can feel that your pet matters the moment you walk in. They take their time, answer questions thoroughly, and never make you feel rushed.

Dr. Howland is incredibly detail-oriented, which we really appreciate. He explains things clearly and thoughtfully, and he speaks to our animals—and to us—with equal respect. That level of care and presence goes a long way.

We fully trust them with our pets and are so grateful to have found such a compassionate and thorough veterinary team.”
— Diana R.

Thank you to Dr. Howland and the White Oak team for continuing to provide compassionate, attentive care to pets and their families!
