We really would have rather had Total Eclipse of the Heart here.. but we've got to spend our resources wisely.

🐾 61 MORE CATS. 61 MORE LIVES CHANGED. 🐾

Last week, 61 more cats had their lives changed because of Friends of Ferals, Carol House Quick Fix Pet Clinic , Kitten Division Adoption Center & Spay Neuter Wellness Clinic , MoSHA , and YOU.

59 local community cats were spayed or neutered - meaning 59 cats will no longer contribute to the cycle of reproduction and overpopulation.

At the same time, 2 kittens were placed with our incredible rescue partners at Kitten Division.

🏥 $2,147.25 in veterinary costs
🚗 428 volunteer-funded miles just to veterinary appointments

Those 39 spays are HUGE: Using conservative reproductive estimates, those females represent the potential to prevent 156+ kittens in just the coming months and thousands more over the course of a year!

That's the power of prevention.

Fewer kittens born into hardship.
Healthier colonies.
Healthier cats.

And that's exactly why we believe prevention is the smartest and most compassionate solution.

PREVENTION WORKS!

As kids head back to school with fresh backpacks, new pencils, and big plans for the year ahead, community cats are still out there having kittens and those kittens can grow up and start having kittens of their own before they're even old enough to be considered “big kids”.

That's why we LOVE what the Missouri State Humane Association is doing to help put spay/neuter within reach across our state.

🐾 63 MORE CATS. 63 MORE LIVES CHANGED. 🐾

Last week, 63 more cats had their lives changed because of Friends of Ferals and your support.

Our primary focus remains what it has always been: targeted spay/neuter for our local community cats and the people caring and living amongst them.

Last week, 57 local community cats were spayed or neutered, meaning 57 cats will no longer contribute to the cycle of reproduction and overpopulation.

At the same time, 9 kittens were taken in by our incredible rescue partners at Division, Homes Rescue Connection, and House Rolla affiliates. ❤️

A few additional cats were also included in our surgery funding and then placed with rescue partners. This is not our normal model. Typically, cats going into rescue have their veterinary expenses covered by the receiving organization.

In these particular cases, circumstances changed at the last minute, had they not, we would have been legally required to return these desperately needy kittens to where they were caught. 😿

Sadly, one kitten has passed away. 💔
Two required eye removal surgeries.
And we're hoping for a much better tomorrow for the survivors.

These situations are a reminder that spay/neuter is prevention.
When we sterilize cats before more litters are born, we reduce the number of kittens who face illness, injury, homelessness, or the need for emergency rescue.
