Three Little Birds Farm Family farming Living closer to our food. We hope to share our bounty at the local farmer's market and through direct sales.

Our products grow as we do, and include blueberries, pastured pork, and sheep. Our name is inspired by our family anthem, Bob Marley's song, Three Little Birds:

52 lambs on the ground and we are done! Only 1 bottle lamb, who is currently decked out in a pink bedazzled cat collar featuring a bell (so we can find her in the crowd).

44 lambs on the ground. We’re almost finished. For the fist time this season Mark and I both had to pull lambs today (separately). It’s not usual that they need help but it’s very uplifting to have successful outcomes when we have to intervene. It can be pretty gross though…

When we “process” a new lamb, we weigh them, s*x them, tag them and dip navels in betadine. We find that canvas bags are the best way to get a weight and contain them for tagging. The canvas bag offers enough compression to calm the lamb. We use a fish scale to weigh. Weights allow us to track longterm breedind data but in the short-term allows us to see if we might be having problems with feeding. If we are worried, we do daily weights.

LGD Feature Friday - The Anatolian Shepherd, a large, livestock guardian dog from Turkey's high plateaus, is bred for independence and protective ability. It stands about 27–29 inches tall, weighs 90–150 lb, and has a broad head, strong muzzle, and a long tail often curling when alert. Its dense double coat resists harsh weather. The breed is loyal, territorial, and reserved with strangers, bonding closely with livestock and property, often living full-time with the herd. It employs visual signals, barking, and physical defense only if necessary, and is suspicious of outsiders. They perform well alone or in groups, especially on open rangelands, and bond early with livestock for effective guarding. Adapted to hot and cold climates, they need moderate exercise but extensive work to prevent unwanted behaviors. Not suited for small-lot living without management, they live about 11–13+ years, offering effective protection through independence and steady guardianship.
