VCA Merrimac will be closed Wednesday May 28th- Friday May 30th. If you have an emergency please reach out to Peninsula Animal Referral Center at (757) 874-8115 or Coastal Animal Referral Emergency at (757) 703-0199. Kennel staff will still be onsite to care for boarding pets. For boarding pickups and drop offs you can call (804) 822-1515.

Welcome Dr. Swartout!

Dr. Swartout is originally from Hope Mills, North Carolina. She received her Bachelors' in Animal Science in 2020 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2024 from North Carolina State University, where she developed her interest in veterinary entomology and mixed animal practice. Dr. Swartout loves being a positive experience in her patients’ and clients’ day, even when making tough decisions together. While not at work she enjoys hanging out with her cat Bakchwi (Bat Kitty), reading, hiking, video games, amusement parks, and spending time with her brother.
