This is why it’s so important to microchip your pets! Yes, even your “oh she never goes outside” cats.
Petey arrived at our clinic today in a trap alongside 41 other cats from around San Diego and beyond. Before preparing him for surgery, we scanned him for a microchip. To our surprise, he had one!
This happens from time to time. Sometimes, a microchip isn’t registered, or we’re unable to reach the owners or find someone willing to take the cat back. So, you can imagine how refreshing it was to have a very different outcome today.
Petey had accidentally escaped from his home in a rural community one year ago. When we called his family, they were completely shocked to learn that he was still alive. Their neighborhood is home to many predators, and they had feared the worst.
Petey’s family were so relieved to hear that he was safe and they are eagerly awaiting his reunion with him. The trapper will be driving him back to his family this evening.
After an entire year apart, Petey is finally going home.
Every pet should be microchipped. Even indoor-only pets! Accidents happen, doors get left open, and even the most careful pet owners can find themselves searching for a missing family member. A registered microchip can make all the difference in bringing a lost pet home.
Already have your pet microchipped? Take a moment to make sure your contact information is up to date. If you’ve moved or changed your phone number, be sure to update your pet’s microchip registration.
Not sure if your pet is microchipped or can’t find their microchip information? Stop by your local veterinary clinic or animal shelter and ask them to scan your pet. They can help you locate the microchip number so you can check its registration and update your information if needed.
