365 days since they became hickory residents
365 days since they had a family
365 days since they’ve had a home to call their own
365 days waiting for the perfect home to open their hearts

Cheif and Xena came to us on a stray hold after being dumped at the lake with some of their other siblings. What was just supposed to be a 3 day stray hold has turned into a 365+ day stay at the shelter. They were only 10 months old when they got to the shelter, so not only have they spent more than half of their life at the here they also spent their first birthday in the shelter with no family to call their own. We are hoping their 1st birthday is the only one they have to celebrate in the shelter. They will be 2 years old on September 4 and we would love to see them both with their forever families before then.

About Xena
Xena is aloof around new people but once you earn her trust she’s good. She loves dogs of all sizes and does best meeting new people if a dog she trusts is with her. She would do best in a home with other dogs. She does well on walks as long as it’s far away from traffic. So trails and parks are best for her. She is kennel trained and potty trained. Xena is in a foster home but she is still searching for her furever family.

About Chief
Chief is a little more accepting of new people but still a little aloof. He is a little more dog selective and sets hard boundaries with new dogs he meets. He could go to home with another dog in a perfect situation but may do better as an only pet in the home. He is a big ol’ love bug and will sit all 65lbs in your lap whenever he gets the chance.

Message us for more information and to set up a meet and greet!

Please share this and help us find these two a home!

HUGE transport today to Lawrence Humane Society. 7 adult cats, 7 kittens, and the last 3 puppies from the dumped litter are headed to foster homes to be adopted. We are incredibly sad to see this group go, as we tend to grow attached the longer these animals are at Hickory. But we are SO thankful for the opportunity for these babies to find a forever home. ❤️🐾

❕UPDATE❕
We have placement pending. We will reach out to anyone who has shown interest if this falls through. Please send good thoughts our way for this to be a perfect match!

‼️URGENT PLACEMENT NEEDED‼️

We got a message about a dog that was recently adopted not getting along with their other dog. It seems that there is some toy resource guarding/aggression. This is a very manageable behavior. We know it’s alot to ask but if there is anyone that has some extra room in their home and love in their heart to spare for Thelma so she doesn’t have to come back to the shelter 😭

While thelma was in the shelter she was a very spunky and energetic little girl. She so sweet and just wants to be wherever you are. She is a 2-3 year old Basset Hound!

She could go to a home with another dog with behavioral management when toys are present. We are just looking for at least a temporary placement to avoid bringing her back to such a chaotic environment.

If you or anyone you know is able to help us out please message us!!

‼️ UPDATE ON 5 ABANDONED DOGS‼️

We were able to catch the 5 dogs that were left out on 70th and Haverhill. They were there a couple weeks and unfortunately no one else was stepping up to help so we took action and took these dogs in even though we are completely FULL at Hickory. We have one that has found a home but the other 4 we are still looking for adopters!! They are about 1-2 years all weigh just around 20 pounds!

We are already drowning in vet bills and now we have 5 more that all need completely vetted. Vaccines, spayed & neutered and more. If you can help we would appreciate it SO MUCH! ❤️

If you’d like to call and pay on the Hickory Hollow account at Augusta Animal Clinic their phone number is (316) 775-7061.

‼️ PSA ‼️
‼️ Please read & share ‼️

Hickory is NOT currently taking in any cats OR dogs!!! We have been receiving over 20 messages/calls a DAY from people who are finding stray cats and needing somewhere to take them, to people just straight up wanting to rehome their pets… 💔

Majority of our calls and messages also have to do with KITTENS. At this moment in time, we are UNABLE to take in kittens as we don’t have a room/building dedicated to only kittens - our population consists of over 50 cats in total right now and kittens are at a huge risk to get sick if they are not quarantined properly and we don’t have the space to do so right now.

Our partner rescues and other resources we use are also FULL. We need people to step up and start helping with this problem because rescues are drowning. FOSTER for a local rescue, DONATE to a local rescue, ADOPT from a rescue & please SPAY & NEUTER YOUR ANIMALS. We are begging you. There are tons of resources out there you can use to find discounted/low-cost vetting for your animals you just have to do a little bit of research and if you need assistance with this, please reach out to us.

If cost of food/vet care is one of your main concerns please send us a detailed message here on Facebook with all of the information you have on any of the animals you are needing help with and we will get back to you as soon as we can. We are constantly messaging/calling back and forth with people all day long trying to find placement or resources for people & their animals just to try to help in any way we can & we can’t get to every single message as soon as they come in, so please be patient with us. Everything we do is solely for the animals and we promise you we will help in any possible way we know how to and are capable of, but we are struggling to keep up at the moment. While we are trying to tend to messages, we are also only a team of 2-3 people at a time, taking care of over 100 animals every single day at the rescue.

Some of you may recognize Xena. She came to us last July after being dumped at the lake. She had a rough start to life and her time at hickory hasn’t been easy on her. She was constantly injuring herself but was able to go to one of our employees homes to foster. She has been doing amazingly well in a home and is a completely different dog since being in a home. She loves other dogs big and small and doesn’t react to cats when out on walks. She loves to rough house with bigger dogs but has never been bery vocal. She’s always been a little wary of new people but warms up fairly quickly once she knows resident dogs are good them. She is kennel and potty trained! She would do best in a home with at least one other dog as she looks to them for guidance and learns from them very quick!

Some of her favorite things are bones and stuffed toys. She doesnt rip them as long as shes being supervised. She trys to eat socks occasionally but has recently started to bringing them to me when she finds them, which is rarely! She loves ice, pickles and car rides. She is not a fan of fireworks, ceiling fans, or bicycles and cars driving too close on walks.

If you or anyone you know is looking to add this fierce pup to your family please reach out to set up a meet and greet!

Please share this post in hopes to find her the perfect home!

‼️ HELP NEEDED FOR HIGH VET BILLS‼️

Otis is one of few medical cases the last couple weeks, he was picked up as a stray with a severe infection on his tail due to previous trauma. Despite trying to save his tail it ended up needing to be amputated. Otis is now healing great but it has definitely come at a cost.

Our dog rue ended up having to go to the vet where she was also diagnosed with a collapsed lung and fluid surrounding her chest and heart. She’s currently on medication now and will be needing to return to the vet for updated images in hopes that her lung re- inflates and the fluid drains.

We always make sure any animal in our care is always receiving any medical care needed and this comes at a huge cost because we have so many animals to care for and so many of those animals we take in weren’t receiving any of that medical care.

Otis and Rue are still up for adoption! We would love to see them in a home.

If you can donate, thank you! Please share the post! ❤️

You can call Augusta Animal Clinic and pay on the hickory hollow account their number is 316- 775-7061.
