Willkommen to Hoptoberfest! 💙🐰 Meet Lupin, a late bloomer who’s worth the wait.

Lupin was born at GLRS, one of our “flower babies.” His mom and some of his siblings have already found loving homes, and now it’s his turn to find his perfect match. This quiet gentleman has the softest black fur and loves nothing more than relaxing and taking leisurely hops around his space. He’s a little shy and takes time to warm up to being handled, but he’s gentle, friendly, and sweet as can be. With a patient adopter who lets him blossom in his own time, Lupin will make a wonderful forever friend.

🚗💙 GLRS is hitting the road again! 💙🚗

Tomorrow, Liz, our Executive Director, and two of our dedicated volunteers are making the drive down to the Columbus area for Midwest BunFest this Sunday, October 25. It’s a one-day festival dedicated to all things bunny, hosted by our friends at Ohio House Rabbit Rescue.

If you love a bun (or a few), Sunday is your day. Stock up on goodies from specialty vendors (your buns will thank you), and learn from experienced rabbit vets at MedVet Hilliard. This year’s education sessions cover ear infections, liver lobe torsion, GI stasis and bloat, healthy weight, and bonding rabbits.

You’ll find GLRS at our table with a slideshow of our adoptable bunnies, GLRS merch, and plenty of bunny talk. We can’t wait to catch up with some of our favorite bunny people in the Midwest, so stop by, say hi, and introduce yourself!

Willkommen to Hoptoberfest! 💙🐰 Meet Jazz, the smoothest bun at the sanctuary.

Jazz was born at GLRS, one of our “apple babies,” and yes, she’s Braeburn and Jonagold’s sister! She’s still waiting for her forever family. All-black bunnies are often overlooked, and honestly, we don’t get it. Jazz’s soft, glossy coat absolutely shines in person. She’s a quiet, curious girl who loves exploring her space, playing with toys, and keeping an eye on everything going on around her. She can be a little shy and needs time to feel safe somewhere new, but a well-timed treat goes a long way toward winning her over.

Heron is a big, easygoing boy with a quiet, friendly heart. He loves a good hop around and a cozy snuggle, and his fur is oh-so-soft (trust us, you’ll want to pet him all day). Like most bunnies, he takes a little while to warm up to new people and places, but his curious, friendly nature always wins out.

So, you follow us on Facebook, or maybe you joined us at Hoppy Harvestfest this weekend. You’ve met our bunnies, pigs, goats, and cats, and you want to help, but you’re not sure where to start.

Here’s how! 🐰💚

Our new Volunteer Interest Form is open, and there’s a place for you whether you want to help from home, in person, or a mix of both.

For 31 years, Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary has run on the heart of our volunteers. Now we’re ready to grow our education, advocacy, and adoption programs so we can help even more bunnies and the people who love them.

Volunteers make that possible in two ways: by helping with the daily care that keeps our residents thriving, and by bringing their skills and ideas to the bigger work ahead. To get there, we need you.

Ways to get involved:

~Join our animal care team on a regular schedule
~Pitch in on workdays like yard cleanup and winter prep
~Bring your workplace team for a corporate volunteer day
~Help out at our events
~Make bunny enrichment from home
~Share skills like photography, video editing, electrical, or HVAC

Students welcome! Ages 16+ can volunteer on their own, and ages 10 to 15 with a guardian.

No résumé needed. Just tell us what you love to do, and we’ll help you find where it fits.

Yesterday, Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary was filled with sunshine, fall color, and so many friendly faces. Whether you joined a tour to meet our residents, placed a bid in the silent auction, collected every stamp on your vegan food passport, or just soaked up an afternoon of festive sanctuary charm, you made this day what it was. Every ticket, bid and friend who will share our mission with others helps provide care for the rabbits, pigs, goats, and cats who call GLRS home.
