GLRS provides a safe haven to abandoned, abused, and neglected domestic rabbits and others. Expect a response within 1-2 days.

If you are interested in adopting, please contact our adoption coordinator at [email protected]. Sanctuary work keeps us very busy, so we may not be able to respond right away. Visiting the Sanctuary: We welcome visitors and are very excited to share the wonders of the sanctuary, however, we are not open to the public on a daily basis. Tours are available by appointment only during the

spring, summer, and early fall. Please email us at least 48 hours in advance to schedule a visit and have us confirm your visit. To help us continue providing a safe haven for the animals, we request a donation of $5.00 per person for tours of the sanctuary. To get involved in volunteering email [email protected]

Join us TODAY, June 10 from 1 - 3 PM at Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea Westgate (.westgate) for a free family-friendly educational event about domestic rabbits! We will be sharing what it is really like to live with a rabbit, answering your questions, and giving you a peek into life at Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary. Sweetwaters samples will be on hand, and the cafe will be donating 15% of in-cafe purchases to GLRS all week long (6/10-6/12) when you mention us at the register.

This is a great outing for families curious about rabbits, or anyone who wants to learn more before our 2nd Annual June Jubilee on June 28! We were going to post the message below earlier today, but before we got a chance to, sweet Cosmo passed away. He finally knew safety and love, and his body couldn't hold out any longer. Please consider helping us save more bunnies like Cosmo before they can no longer be saved. Our hearts are breaking. Binky free, Cosmo. 🌈

Meet our newest resident: Cosmo.

We heard several stories about Cosmo’s background that made us take immediate action – one story that said he would be euthanized if a rescue did not take him immediately.

Bunny surrender requests are filled with half-truths, but in the end, we don’t need to know the full story to know that Cosmo has been failed time and time again. That’s clear to see by the ribs sticking out from his frail body.

Cosmo is 10 years old, and he has never had hay. If you’re new to rabbits, rabbits need hay as the primary food source of their diet, about 80%. It keeps their constantly growing teeth from getting too long and bending back on themselves.

Cosmo’s nails have not been cut in what looks like years.

Cosmo has such severe mobility issues that he cannot jump into a traditional bunny litter pan.

Cosmo’s story could have ended two days ago, but he has found sanctuary and will never have to worry again. He has a team of bunny-loving friends who will care for him, love him, and advocate for him when no one else did for a decade.

We aren’t sure what veterinary care he may need moving forward, but if you want to help us care for Cosmo and say yes to more cases like him, consider supporting us: whether that’s a gift, sharing this post, or telling Cosmo’s story to someone who needs to hear it.

We have TWO volunteer work days coming up this weekend, 5/30 and 5/31 from 10 AM - 3 PM!

Tasks will include cleaning bunny litter boxes; weeding/preparing soil around buildings for in-ground plants; seed and starter plant gardening; and general landscaping/beautification 🌼

Can't make it this weekend? We will also have another volunteer workday on 6/21 to prepare the property for our June Jubilee on 6/28! Make it a Father's Day event and bring your dad if he's ready to work! 😉
