Dogs are preprogrammed to read *us* - they notice your expression, your breath, your emotions. Yet we insist on trying to teach them our language. As fellow mammals, deep down inside of us we know how to communicate clearly via emotional control and energy awareness. It’s simple but not easy! If this has peaked your curiosity, my new course “Your Dog is Your Mirror” will provide you with a map of how to use the language your dog already speaks to connect with them on a deeper level. What if sharing life with your dog felt like magic? What if you felt deeply connected to them in every moment? What if the bond you shared was almost telepathic in a way you can’t quite convey to other dog owners? That’s my experience with my dogs, and I’d love to teach you how to morph your dog into your familiar. My class, “Your Dog is Your Mirror” starts next week! Link in bio to register.

DO NOT REPEAT THEIR NAAAAME! My go-to’s if they don’t look are: kissy noises, clapping, backing up. STILL reward them when they do finally look. “Name”, PAUSE, if they don’t look, entice them with anything else!!! When they do look, “yes” and feed. Repeat until you don’t need the song and dance, and they are whipping their head around when they hear their name. For leash, if they don’t understand the jingle with a longer leash, go back to my first video on this (I’m holding a chicken on the cover) and lay down your markers first! Lmk if you have any questions so far!

What if we could teach dogs to make good decisions at liberty instead of leaning on control? What if learning to play with food and creating a dedicated tug game could replace the positional obedience most trainers lean on? Dog training is evolving and I think the future of this industry lies in the hands of trainers who are utilizing play to solve problems. Clients are so relieved that their homework is to play, and we trainers get to be silly and enjoy our programs - all while solving the exact behavioral issues clients bring us all the time.

If this interests you, I’d love to be the one to teach you how to do it. I have an “Intro to Play-Based Training” course available now. It’s hosted via Zoom.

You don’t have to be a trainer to join! Just someone interested in building more connection with their dog/s.

My Intro to Freestyle course builds connection, better communication, a stronger relationship between you and your dog - and it’s FUN! The only prerequisite is a dog who fetches any toy. We’ll teach them (and you) how to play clearly with a frisbee, and then comes the best part: tricks! You’ll leave with the skills to build a freestyle frisbee routine and with the foundations to morph the basics into anything you can imagine. Link in bio to register!

When we teach the collar as *communication* we end up with a dog who - when they find the end of the leash and feel slight pressure on the collar- relieves it themselves and creates slack. No corrections, no requirement for heel, no punishment, no need to constantly nag them. I have a series going on this topic if you’d like to learn how to teach it!

If you think your dog can’t or won’t play, I can teach YOU how to speak their language and find what drives and excites them to create a committed game you both love.

If you want to learn more about number 4, give me a follow as I am doing a series about how I kindly, fairly, and effectively teach dogs to walk nicely on a flat collar. We use a fun game, and then fade out the food until collar communication is just the default. No “leash pops”, no more choking themselves, no need to teach reps and reps of obedience, and the ultimate freedom to be given any length of leash and have good manners regardless.
