Cute kittens, fluffy Persians, and fun & games… that’s what most people see on social media. 😂🐱 But here’s a little glimpse into the nitty-gritty behind the scenes!
Most weeks, I work 60+ hours in real estate, and whatever time I have outside of work is split between my three young children and my hobbies… which, of course, include my cats.
I WISH I could say having a cattery meant sitting around all day snuggling adorable kittens. 😂 But that is definitely not reality.
These little p**p machines can cause some REAL damage. 💩🤣 And they require daily care. Every. Single. Day.
Cleaning eyes.
Brushing coats.
Scooping litter boxes.
Changing and washing bedding.
Cleaning food and water bowls.
Constant water changes.
Vacuuming.
Mopping.
Disinfecting.
And then cleaning everything you JUST cleaned because someone decided to make a mess five minutes later. 😂
This doesn’t even include the hours that goes into maintaining these coats, especially when we have a show quality cat in full quote. That alone takes about 2-3hrs of grooming per cat- weekly!
We actually have an entire bonus room in our home dedicated specifically to our kittens and nursing moms. The rest of our cats free-roam our home and can come in and out of this room as appropriate, while of course keeping our intact males and females separated.
I feel like people don’t really talk about THIS side of breeding enough.
Today alone, I spent THREE HOURS cleaning and getting caught up… just in this room. 😅 And tomorrow? We’ll do it all over again.
Ethical breeding is so much more than producing cute kittens and posting adorable pictures. There is a tremendous amount of time, work, cleaning, money, and responsibility that happens behind the scenes every single day.
But seeing them happy, healthy, thriving, and eventually going home to families who absolutely adore them makes all of the p**p, laundry, and endless cleaning worth it. 🥰
