The sun is out, and so are the rattlesnakes. Dogs are not naturally afraid of rattlesnakes, but I can train your dog to detect the snakes and avoid a dangerous bite. For details on my upcoming class in Tri-Cities, visit my website:

2021 update

Unfortunately, I will not be offering any classes this year. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has been very supportive of my training classes for the last 10 years. In 2020, the Attorney Generals office reviewed their licensing procedure for my business and found that the type of permit that WDFW had ben using for me did not meet the state law. So WDFW worked out a process that would allow me to obtain a different type of license through the Department of Agriculture.
I will need to obtain a Federal permit and then a state permit, and then catch a rattlesnake in Oregon or Idaho and have it tested by a veterinarian. Between my day job and time I want to spend with my family, I am not sure when I am going to knock off all these steps, but I don’t see getting this accomplished in time to offer classes in 2021.

I am not likely to have any classes in 2020. The folks at WDFW are very supportive of this training; however, they found that current state law does not really allow for me to retain a wild snake for these classes. Rather than trying to change state law, the solution is to legally obtain a snake in Idaho or Oregon and import it with a permit from the Department of Agriculture. This is the path I am going to take, I just don’t see completing all the steps in time to resume classes this year.
