We had two visitors at the clinic today that got to observe a umbilical hernia surgery on a c**t this morning. Riley Gaffney is hoping to register in the fall for Vet school ( large animal) and Zimiri is a FFA member and just wanted to observe a surgical procedure. The c**t did great and his recovery was uneventful. Next on the list of procedures to watch; dentistry and castration.

There will be no emergency services on Saturday June 14th after 5:00 PM - Sunday June 15th. Dr. Kerr will be back in the office on Monday June 16th at 8:00 Am.

This product is an oral sedative for equines only. This product is used to help relax a horse during trimmings and or shoeing. If your equine is nervous while in the horse trailer. If your horse needs to have a wound cleaned and or re- bandaged. Dosage is by the weight; starts at 330 lbs - 1300 lbs. For best result administer 40 minutes before procedure. In general horses show sedative effects lasting approximately 90-180 minutes between administration. Countryside Large Animal Clinic always has this in stock. Just like Banamine it’s nice to have in your tack room and horse trailer for those emergency situations.

𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬: Fructans in grass are fructose chain molecules , a type of sugar. This sugar is a byproduct of photosynthesis and is used to aid plant growth. On sunny days fructose is produced in large quantities and stored within the blade of grass. When it cools off at night, these fructans are then utilized as fuel for growth.

Fructans are higher in the seasons when the weather is cool: spring and fall. They are still present during hot summers, but not usually at levels that can be dangerous.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐬

Because fructans are a non-structural carbohydrate, horses cannot digest them. Therefore, fructans must be broken down by the microorganisms in the equine hindgut first so that they can be absorbed. Because they are a type Of sugar, horses love to eat grasses that are high in fructans.
