🎣🐾Hook, line, and....uh-oh! Sweet Hazel went from a fishing trip to an unexpected detour at the vet after getting a fish hook stuck in her face! 😬But thanks to superstars technician Hailee and Dr. Walker, the hook was out in no time and Hazel's tail is wagging once again! 💪🐶 She's now back to chasing adventure (and hopefully not hooks!) with her family! 💕

Summer hikes and outdoor fun can come with hidden risks—like rattlesnakes. Here’s how to protect your pup:

🔗 Keep dogs on leash in snake-prone areas.
🐶 Consider rattlesnake avoidance training to teach your dog to steer clear.
🚨 If bitten, call our hospital first to check our staffing availability, or head to an emergency clinic.
🧘‍♂️ Stay calm, and carry your pet to the car to reduce venom spread.
❌ Don’t apply a tourniquet, ice, or try to suck out venom!

Let’s keep your pets safe this season! 💚

🐾 Guess the Cat Breed! 🐾
This fluffy feline is known for its long, luxurious coat, sweet temperament, and a face that’s as flat as a pancake! 🐱🥞
They love lounging like royalty and prefer a quiet life indoors 👑✨

(Pictured in this post is Dolly, one of our adorable feline patients, who totally stole our hearts with the cutest, squeakiest little meows!)

💭 Can you guess the breed?

🚨 Meet Moose: Cookie Dough Criminal 🍪🐾
One fine day, Moose decided chocolate chip cookie dough was just too tempting to resist... unfortunately, he forgot he's a dog. 😬🍫

Chocolate is toxic to pups because it contains theobromine and caffeine—two things that send their systems into overdrive (and not in a fun zoomies way).

Enter Dr. VanMetre and assistant Mya, who quickly stepped in and helped Moose undo his dessert decision by inducing vomiting (10/10 would not recommend trying at home). 🤢👩‍⚕️🐶

Once the cookie crisis was cleared, Moose got VIP snuggles and butt scratches from Hailee. He took his visit like a champ—such a good boy! 🥹💛

🎆 The 4th of July is right around the corner... and while we love the fireworks, our furry friends might not! 🐶🐱

Did you know more pets go missing on the 4th than any other day of the year? 💔 Loud booms can cause major anxiety — but there are ways to help! 💊

If your pet needs a medication to stay calm and safe, give us a call today. Let’s make this Independence Day stress-free for everyone! 🇺🇸🐾

Meet Kaylee! 🩺 She’s a Vet Assistant here at the hospital and currently in her final semester of the Veterinary Technician program at FRCC. Her next stop? Transferring to CSU to earn her degree in Zoology 🎓🐾

A proud Colorado native, Kaylee has called this beautiful state home her whole life—and she’s not leaving anytime soon. When she’s off the clock, you’ll find her hiking scenic trails, getting lost in a good book or puzzle, or hanging out with her adorable Basset Hound puppy and three cats. Fun fact: she has a quirky passion for collecting miniatures—especially gnomes! 🐶📚🧩🪄

Meet Ethan — a veterinary assistant and proud Minnesota native who grew up in a tiny farm town surrounded by cattle, sheep, and wide open fields. 🐑🌾 From an early age, life on the farm sparked a deep love for animals and set him on a path toward veterinary medicine.

Now studying Animal Science at CSU, Ethan is gearing up to apply to vet school with a clear goal in mind: to focus on livestock care and rural mixed animal medicine. 🐄💉 His passion lies in serving rural communities and keeping barn doors — and hearts — open for every animal in need.

Meet Mya, one of our incredible veterinary assistants here at WVH! Nearly a year into her journey with us, Mya brings curiosity and compassion to every shift—she loves that each day is a chance to learn something new.

Her passion for animals extends far beyond the hospital as well—Mya is especially interested in conservation medicine and wildlife research, and she hopes to one day become a traveling wildlife veterinarian 🌍🐘

Outside the hospital, Mya lives for adventure—whether she’s rock climbing, skiing, checking out local breweries, or diving into a new fantasy or sci-fi novel. 📚

Our Story

Wellington Veterinary Hospital opened in 1999 on the west end of Cleveland Avenue where The Cakery currently resides. Our clients have amazed and awed us over the years, accepting our help and trusting us with their very special furry family members. From the beginning, we have been committed to bringing the best veterinary care.

Our clients are our friends and the WVH team has always gone above and beyond for them. As the Wellington community has grown, so have we to make sure that we are always available. We eventually outgrew our "first home" and moved into our current building on 6th street in 2008 which allowed us to expand our services.

Today, our community has access to veterinary care six days a week from a team of four doctors and more than 30 team members right here in Wellington.

Now 20 years later, our mission is still the same: Here you will be listened to, cared for and valued because you are why we do what we do!
