Since its inception, over 3,000 cats and kittens have been rescued. In addition to this much needed service,
the CCC also provides assistance in the placement of kittens and cats
which have been abandoned, surrendered, and rescued.

Happy Halloween and good mews: we have gotten the all clear tomorrow for open hours! We hope to see you between 10-1 for the first day of open hours since we’ve been closed for most of the month. We have lots of kitties waiting for their forever homes and lots of people interested so we’ll have some extra volunteers and staff on hand to help out. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this trying time!

Happy Forever Friday! This week we have a lovely update on a special boy adopted just a short time ago. He took a bit of time to settle in, but it sounds like he has done beautifully! Read below for a nice check in on handsome Wh***ey, now Big Mac:

“Our big orange boy weighed in at 14 pounds when we brought him home so we changed his name from Wh***ey to Big Mac! AKA Mac-adoo, Mac and Cheese, MacIntosh, Mr. Bean...He is such a sweet boy and is so ready for all the love! His purr is like a rainstorm and we could just scratch and pet him all day long- whenever we stop he looks up to see what is wrong with us! He is about 2 years old and we brought him home 6 weeks ago from the Quiet Room. He seems to have had some trauma that makes it especially scary for him to be out in the open and to explore. He still mostly stays in one room, with the occasional adventure down the hall or into another room when all is very quiet and his favorite people are around. We've put his food outside of "his room" so that he can stretch his comfort a few times a day, and that seems to work well. He will let us sit near him, but is not a big fan of being picked up and is not a lap cat just yet. Mac does have lots of energy to chase and capture a fellow orange guy (a fish on a string!), and he is enjoying scratching and sitting in a cat tower. We have several felt "hidey holes" that he loves to snuggle into for hours at at time, and we are just trying to be patient and give him time to become his best self!”

Happy National Cat Day! Please share any pictures or videos of your beloved cats, whether they were adopted from the CCC or not. We love to see updates from CCC alumni, but we never turn down cat pictures! Let us know how you’re celebrating this special holiday. Honestly, every day is National Cat Day when you have five (or more) cats.

Featured are my cats whom you’ve seen before- Charlie, Queso, Spooky Bean, Montana Banana, and Sir Dragonfly, and my current foster kitten who is not yet available for adoption, Hazel.

Better late than never! I just found out that today is National Black Cat Day, so we wanted to share some well wishes for our beloved black cats out there, whether they were adopted from the CCC or not! These are my two, Spooky Bean and Sir Dragonfly, and they usually get along nicely. Please share your mini house panthers, your voids, your princes/princesses of darkness here so we can all enjoy their majesty!

Sorry we have been rather quiet lately, as we haven’t been hosting open hours for a few weeks now and we’re gearing up to re-open again on the 31st. We appreciate the support and patience as we navigate the closure, and hopefully our reopening will be smooth and simple! Our adoptions will resume when we re-open, but in the meantime, anyone interested in adopting, fostering, or volunteering is welcome to send in applications, and we will get back to you as soon as we can!

The kitties are getting the usual twice daily care from our volunteers who are following more strict cleaning and sanitization protocols, but a lot of the kitties miss the interactions they get from visitors during open hours. They’ll be glad (and we will too) to welcome you back after our closure!

Join the Second Chance Animal Services for a special event for seniors and their pets! This is a partnership event with the Worcester Senior Center to benefit senior pet owners 60+. You must register beforehand; the info is on the flyer. The event is on October 27th from 9-12 at the Worcester Senior Center. Please reach out with any questions!

So sorry for the late update, but we unfortunately have to extend our open hours by another week. The kitties are doing alright but still recovering from some upper respiratory infections. We are planning to resume open hours on Saturday, October 31st. We apologize for the inconvenience!

Happy Forever Friday! This week we have a special update from a kitty who spent a long time with us and was very scared and shy. He recently went to his forever home and his family has reached out with a nice update and some adorable photos that we’d like to share with you all! Read the update below and see the cute pictures:

“Cheeto is slowly but surely warming up becoming more comfortable he is just getting brave enough to nap on the couch next to me. He loves to play with his toys and get attention. He is the sweetest boy ever. I fell in love with Cheeto from the second I saw his picture online, and even more going to visit him in person I knew he was meant to come home with me.

Bringing him home he was very scared and just wanted to hide but I stayed by his side to show him this is his home now. Cheeto is slowly but surely warming up becoming more comfortable walking around the house like he owns it. Cheeto is very vocal and will tell you when he wants something. He almost always wants more attention lol. He surprised me with how much he loves to run around chasing his toys. His favorite spot is on the couch in a big blanket. My favorite thing he does is when he’s getting pet he will throw his entire body weight onto the floor and roll over to show his belly. Cheeto is extremely smart and the sweetest boy ever.”

A reminder: This weekend is the LAST weekend to participate in our fundraiser at Bemis Farms in Spencer MA for the Scarecrow in a Pot craft! Thank you to those who came out over the past few weekends to make your own awesome fall decoration to help support a local business and also the CCC!
