Today is Ginger Cat Appreciation Day!

Do you have a ginger kitty in your life? Meet my boys Bert and Charlie!

About the Day:
Origin: Founded in 2014 by Chris Roy from Milwaukee in memory of his beloved 17-year-old ginger cat, Doobert.

Purpose: To celebrate the warmth and unique personalities of orange felines and encourage rescue and adoption.

Founder's Legacy: Roy also created Doobert, a volunteer network and app connecting animal shelters with animal rescuers. (Note: general background details can be explored via National Today).

Fast Facts
Mostly Male: About 80% (or a 3:1 ratio) of ginger cats are male because the orange coloration gene is tied to the X chromosome.

Always Tabbies: Every ginger cat is technically a tabby, displaying patterns like mackerel, ticked, or classic swirls.

Freckles: Many orange cats develop small black freckles on their noses or lips as they age due to a harmless trait called lentigo.

Today is International Cat Day!! Our feline friends love to play. Enrichment doesnt need to cost an arm and a leg. The ASPCA has suggestions for low cost DIY Enrichment.

It took me a few days to gather up our July fur and feather friends! We had so many I had to split it up into two posts! We are looking forward to all the fur kids we are watching this month and are equally excited to see our dailies who were off for the Summer, come back in September.
