This coming week is set to be looking like warm weather but don’t forget about your furry friends in the heat!
⚠️ Just like us, dogs can suffer from heat stroke and it can be very dangerous! Watch out for these signs:
- Excessive panting/ drooling
- Vomiting/ diarrhea
- Lethargic
☀️ To keep your dogs safe during summer:
- Have fresh water available always
- Plenty of shade
- Cool spots to rest
- Avoid taking them for walks in the hottest parts of the day
- Walks near water
🌡️ Remember certain dogs are also more at risk than others! Brachycephalic breeds such as bulldogs and pugs, puppies, obese dogs, and older dogs.
🐶 Even though you may not be able to take your dog out on a walk, there are other fun enrichment you can do in the house or yard to keep them entertained and tips to keep them cool:
- Cooling Mats
- Frozen kongs and lickmats
- Frozen treats
- Fruit and veggies that are suitable to dogs eg. Watermelon, apples, carrots, bananas. You can always freeze these too!
- Fun with water
- Find it games in the house
‼️ Remember!! Do not give your dogs ice or frozen foods IF they are showing signs of heat stroke.
