This coming week is set to be looking like warm weather but don’t forget about your furry friends in the heat!

⚠️ Just like us, dogs can suffer from heat stroke and it can be very dangerous! Watch out for these signs:
- Excessive panting/ drooling
- Vomiting/ diarrhea
- Lethargic

☀️ To keep your dogs safe during summer:
- Have fresh water available always
- Plenty of shade
- Cool spots to rest
- Avoid taking them for walks in the hottest parts of the day
- Walks near water

🌡️ Remember certain dogs are also more at risk than others! Brachycephalic breeds such as bulldogs and pugs, puppies, obese dogs, and older dogs.

🐶 Even though you may not be able to take your dog out on a walk, there are other fun enrichment you can do in the house or yard to keep them entertained and tips to keep them cool:
- Cooling Mats
- Frozen kongs and lickmats
- Frozen treats
- Fruit and veggies that are suitable to dogs eg. Watermelon, apples, carrots, bananas. You can always freeze these too!
- Fun with water
- Find it games in the house

‼️ Remember!! Do not give your dogs ice or frozen foods IF they are showing signs of heat stroke.

Such a great turnout for a great cause!

National Puppy Day: The Good, The Bad, and The Barky 🐾

Happy National Puppy Day to the tiny terrors who stole our hearts (and our favorite pair of shoes). 👟💔

If you’re currently living in a cycle of "What’s in your mouth?!", cleaning up "surprises" at 3:00 AM, and getting aggressive butterfly kisses—congrats, you’re a puppy parent!

We love seeing these babies in the clinic, mostly because we get to give them cuddles and then send them back home with you. But seriously, we’re here to help you survive the puppy phase with their health (and your sanity) intact.

Our "Puppy Pro-Tips" for today:
Hide the remote: It’s a chew toy now.

Nap when they nap: It’s the only peace you’ll get.

Bring them to see us: We promise to give them treats so they think the vet is the best place on earth.

Don't forget about our Puppy Classes held once a month! Ask us for more information before they find your other shoe! 🦴

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️ While we’re all for the "luck of the Irish," we want to make sure your pets don’t need any emergency luck today.

Before you start the festivities, keep an eye out for these common "Shamrock Shakers":

🚫 The No-Go List
Fatty Foods & Table Scraps: Traditional favorites like corned beef are high in salt and fat. These can lead to severe gastrointestinal upset or pancreatitis, a painful and serious condition for dogs and cats. 🤢🧪

Alcohol: Beer and cocktails are strictly for humans. Even a small amount of alcohol can be toxic to dogs and cats. 🚫🍸

Soda Bread & Raisins: Many traditional recipes include raisins or currants, which can cause kidney failure in pets. 🍇🥖

Onions & Garlic: Often found in corned beef and cabbage, these can damage pet red blood cells. 🧅🧄

Xylitol: This artificial sweetener is sometimes in sugar-free treats and is highly dangerous. 🍬🧪

Festive Decor: Green carnations can cause GI upset, and plastic "gold" coins or beads are major choking/blockage hazards.

🟢 Pro-Tips for a Safe Day
Stick to the Treats: Give your pup a plain, cooked green bean or a piece of spinach if they want to join the "green" theme!

Check the Fit: Make sure those adorable green bandanas aren’t too tight!

Have a safe and clover-filled day! 🐶🐱🇮🇪

Feeling lucky this 🍀 St. Patrick’s Day? Make sure pets are safe while the celebrations are underway.

From festive foods to party favors, some holiday items can pose risks to curious pets. Check out these safety tips from the ASPCA Poison Control and share with your community so everyone can have a happy and healthy celebration. Read more about toxins here.
