K9 Spark! 8 years down, many more to go!

K9 Spark! The K9 that connected us with Sector K9 Foundation, and we are happy to have begun this friendship through her.

K9 Spark and Officer Campbell have been working together for over 8 years. The pair recently traveled down to Sector K9 Foundation in Waxahachie, TX for their annual narcotics search recertification. This is always a fun time for Officer Campbell, as it allows him to show off how well K9 Spark continues to do for the people who trained them. Officer Campbell speaks highly of Sector K9 Foundation, and it was his hard work and connections with the foundation that brought K9 Taco to Lamar.

Accurate and reliable are two words that describe K9 Spark almost perfectly. Spark has helped our department tremendously in her 8 years. We cannot thank Sector K9 Foundation enough for the work they put into the K9s they train. They are amazing at what they do, and K9 Spark is a testament to that!

K9 Taco has made his official debut! On April 23, 2025, Sgt. Peck officially introduced K9 Taco to the department, our families, and Mayor of Lamar, Colorado Kirk Crespin, during a dinner meeting.

Sgt. Peck talked about the 4-week training program he went through with Sector K9 Foundation down in Waxahachie, TX.

The Mission Statement at Sector K9 is to provide accurate and reliable training for police K9s, their handlers, and departments at no cost. We serve municipal, county, and school district law-enforcement agencies across the country and place a significant emphasis on honesty and integrity in our interactions with clients, meeting their unique needs. We provide the most progressive, unsurpassed training at no cost to agencies nationwide. Sector K9 Foundation provides dual purpose patrol, narcotics detection, explosive detection, and weapons detection K9s.

From what we have already experienced with K9 Spark, they follow their mission statement to the letter. Sgt. Peck talked about how he was overwhelmed in the beginning, but was quick to add that as he and K9 Taco bonded, things began to fall into place. Watching the pair interact, you would never have guessed they had a rough patch. Sgt. Peck stated that as a new handler, he had learn how to take a bite, and K9 Taco was more than happy to help him learn! After 2 weeks, the bond had been established, and Sgt. Peck recalled the first time K9 Taco showed affection with a lick to the ear during a photo.

K9 Taco hit the streets this past Monday and has already been deployed several times, utilizing his narcotic search skills. K9 Taco has many deployments ahead of him and many years of service to the Lamar community, where we will see him show off his other skills: apprehension and search/rescue!

Congratulations to Officer Serrano and K9 Bandit on certifying through American Working Dog Association after a month long training course in Narcotics, Tracking, and Patrol Apprehension.

A special Thank You to Sector K9 Foundation for the top tier training and preparing these officers to hit the streets.
