Ranger, at 9 years young, is our seasoned gentleman with the heart of a puppy. He came to WCAS after his beloved owner passed away, and despite his loss, he has remained nothing but joyful, trusting, and full of love. He ADORES people, has energy for days, and sports the cutest single fluffy eyelash you’ll ever see. Playful, loyal, wiggly, and wonderfully sweet - Ranger is truly one of a kind.

Rookie, our 5-year-old goofball, is golden sunshine wrapped in golden fluff. He’s sweet, affectionate, and would happily play fetch all day long if you let him. If you’ve got a strong throwing arm and a love for happy, high-energy companions, Rookie will be your MVP - Most Valuable Pup! 🎾

🐾✨ WCAS Pawsitive Stories - Woody’s 665-Day Journey to Forever ✨🐾

Some stories take time… and Woody’s took 665 days.
For nearly two years, Woody was a cherished member of the Waushara County Animal Shelter family. We watched him grow, heal, and slowly rebuild trust one day at a time. His goofy grins, gentle heart, and quiet resilience made him unforgettable to everyone who met him. 💕

While other dogs found their new beginnings, Woody waited.
He watched families walk out our doors with their newly adopted pets, tails wagging and hearts full. And even though his turn didn’t come right away, he never stopped believing. Woody stayed patient, loyal, and full of the steady love that only a dog like him can offer.

And then… his person found him. 💛🐾

A woman stepped into his life and saw the dog behind the hesitation - a sweet soul just needing time, trust, and compassion. She spent months slowly and thoughtfully earning Woody’s heart, helping him transition from shelter life into the world beyond our walls.

✨ And a few months ago, Woody officially went home. ✨
Not in a whirlwind moment, but in the gentle, beautiful way he needed. His adoption was the culmination of months of trust-building, patience, and love - and when the moment finally came to sign his adoption contract, it was clear to all of us that Woody had truly found his person.

There were tears (the happy kind), staff hugs, volunteer celebrations, and a collective sense of peace knowing Woody’s long journey had finally led him right where he belonged. ❤️🌈

Woody now spends his days safe, loved, and understood - living the kind of quiet, cozy life we always hoped he’d find.

Sweet boy, we miss your presence at the shelter… but knowing you’re living your best, most beautiful life makes every single day of your wait worth it. 🏡🐾💛

🐾✨ WCAS Pawsitive Stories - Hank & Mittens: A Bond Meant to Be ✨🐾

Some animals stay in the shelter for weeks… others for months… and then there was Hank. 🧡😺

With his luxurious long orange fur and calm, gentle heart, Hank was a favorite among staff and volunteers. But despite all of us cheering him on, his perfect family hadn’t found him yet. He waited… and waited… and waited.

And then everything changed.

Enter Mittens. 🖤🤍🐾
A tiny black-and-white firecracker of a kitten - full of zoomies, curiosity, and nonstop purrs. The moment she spotted Hank lounging in a warm sunbeam ☀️, she marched right over, curled into his side, and purred like a tiny motorcycle. From that moment on, they were inseparable.

Mittens adored Hank’s soft fur and quiet strength.
Hank found comfort in her joy, mischief, and kitten confidence.
They healed each other. ❤️♾️

One day, a visitor came hoping to adopt a cat. They met Hank first and were instantly drawn to his sweet, soulful nature. But then they saw Mittens - curled up beside him like his tiny shadow. 🌙💞

Her message was clear:
“Where he goes… I go.”

And just like that… Hank and Mittens were adopted TOGETHER. 🏡🎉
Now they spend their days snuggled in a cozy home, proving that friendship really can change everything.

Is your heart ready for a dog so lovely she could have inspired poetry?
If it is… her name is OPHELIA, and she’s every bit as lovely as the name suggests. ✨

This 1-year-old Pit Bull Terrier/mix may sound like she belongs in a Shakespeare play, but don’t be fooled - this girl is pure comedy, not tragedy. 🤪💗 Ophelia is a goofy, affectionate ray of sunshine who lives to make people laugh. She wags her tail like it’s a full-time job and flashes a smile that could brighten even the gloomiest Wisconsin day!

And yes… she’s beautiful. Like stop-in-your-tracks, who-is-that-dog?? beautiful. 😍
But her beauty isn’t just in her looks - Ophelia is packed with love, loyalty, and a zest for life that’s completely contagious. From her silly zoomies to her snuggly “please-hold-my-face” moments, she brings joy everywhere she goes.

Ophelia would prefer a home all to herself - sorry, no other animals for this leading lady! Even though she’s incredibly social and loves meeting new people, she truly thrives as the one-and-only pet in the household where she can soak up all the love, attention, and spotlight she deserves.

🌟 It’s Giving Tuesday! When you give to the Waushara County Animal Shelter, you are helping animals just like Petie - animals who arrive scared, injured, and unsure of what tomorrow will bring… until you help change their story. ❤️‍🩹

❤️ When Petie first came to WCAS, he was a stray in rough shape - underweight, banged up, and clearly in need of medical care and some TLC. But even on his hardest days, Petie remained his happy-go-lucky self. His tail never stopped wagging, and his spirit never dimmed!

❤️ Day by day, Petie’s wounds healed, his body grew stronger, and that sparkly personality of his only grew brighter. Soon, he was fully healthy and ready to find his forever home! And after patiently waiting, his perfect family found him. His adoption was a bittersweet moment for all of us - the kind that reminds us why this work matters so deeply. Petie finally got his happy ending! ❤️🏡

Petie is just one of the hundreds of animals WCAS will care for this upcoming year - animals who need medical treatment, food, safety, shelter, and love.

I was found this morning on County Road JJ near Curtis Lake outside of Richford. I am being kept safe, warm, and fed at the shelter.

Meet Mesa, our 3-month-old orange tabby girl who is equal parts sugar, spice, and pure orange-cat chaos. 🍊💥

This curious little cutie has officially declared holiday ornaments to be “the most fascinating toys ever invented,” and honestly… she’s not wrong. 😂 In true orange-cat fashion, Mesa approaches every new sight with big energy, big confidence, and big mischief - followed immediately by big, melty cuddles once she’s tuckered out.

She’s playful, sweet, endlessly curious, and ready to bring joy (and maybe some light ornament rearranging) into your home.
