We missed another string of bad storms and tornadic activity yesterday in east central Illinois. Praying for our local communities that have been hit within the last few months. We are grateful that all our girls-including pregnant mama Pandora-are safe and were able to step outside for a few moments last night.

Our girls are growing up! I love seeing the differences in their fleece development and coloration.

Celestia turns one year old TOMORROW, and as the youngest of the crew she has taken after her genetic line's great size. She is named after her great grandmother, Celeste, who was the herd matriarch at Keva Ranch. Keva Ranch is where we bought Celeste's daughter, Calla, who has resided as our farm matriarch since its founding in 2015.

Lady Z will be two years old in September, and likely will be ready to breed. She brings great staple length to her fleece, and is well conformed. Her dam, Gypsy, also resides on the farm as a breeding dam. We believe that her breeding from last fall did not take, so we will look to breed her to Tritan again soon.

Duchess just turned two years old on June 1st. As the oldest in the group, she is the smallest in stature-true to her dam's genetics-but packs a brilliantly fine dark brown fleece. I will be giving her some more time to develop, with plans to breed her in 2027. I am excited at the possibilities with this one! Her fleece has varied in color some since she was a juvenile. While not necessarily ideal in terms of showing, I have reason to believe she could produce spectacular colorful fleece in her offspring with the right pairing. Her sire, LIBERTYALPACAS E Pluribus Unum, produced several grays and his dam was DRG. This girl's dam, P Pandora's Box, is a fading fawn MFI PERUVIAN CANDYMAN daughter, which gives me all the more reason to believe that Duchess could produce some awesome looking crias for us in the future.

That being said, we believe that two of our girls are pregnant and carrying their crias to term. We are excited for new littles ones in the early fall!

Yesterday, long-term farm residents Ginger Snap and Charlee went to their new home with Honey DEW Acres in Normal, Illinois! These girls are going to have a blast with their new small herd and Airbnb hosts and guests alike. Thanks again Honey DEW Acres for your purchase of these two.

With shearing week complete, we wanted to highlight some of our animals and their fleeces. Duchess Cramerly is a dark brown yearling female out of P Pandora's Box (MFI PERUVIAN CANDYMAN x KVR's Peruvian Pippa [Breeding stock stemming from Magical Farms]) and E Pluribus Unum (Money) out of Liberty Alpacas. With this repeat pairing, I expected exactly what we got with Duchess and her full brother, Captain Phinneus: elite fineness, uniformity of length, uniformity of micron, and spectacular brightness. Like her dam, Duchess puts a great deal of energy into producing an elite fleece and has great potential as a breeding dam. We will be adding her to our breeding program once she develops past 2 years old, and we are excited at the possibilities with this girl!

The weanlings are back in with the herd just in time for shearing week! The girls will get their annual haircuts, and we can’t wait to see what their fleeces unfold.

Did You Know?
One alpaca on average produces between 5-10 pounds of fleece annually. Alpaca fleece is known for being incredibly soft, warmer than Merino wool, easy to handle, and is hypoallergenic.🦙

Any fiber artists interested purchasing raw fleeces to spin from us? Send us a PM. We have fleeces from 2020 on that are available.

If anyone is interested in utilizing our fleece scraps (neck and leg fiber) as mulching material or nesting material for birds this spring season, send me a message.

Need fertilizer for your gardens this spring? Alpaca manure doesn’t need to be composted and can be spread directly on your plants. Providing root stimulation and essential chemicals for plant growth, the manure is also low in odor. PM us! 🪴
