Even the calmest, coolest & collected...est pets can experience anxiety at the vet! As a Fear-Free Certified team, we want to set everyone up for success!

Here are just a few ways you can start at home:

🐾 Practice gentle handling/restraint techniques - gently inspect your pet’s paws, ears, mouth, and body regularly at home while offering treats so exams feel more familiar and less scary.
🐾 Take short “happy visits” when possible. Stopping by the clinic for treats, cuddles, or a quick weigh-in without an exam can help build positive associations (and it's fun for everyone!)
🐾 Get your pet comfortable with their carrier or car rides ahead of time. Leave carriers out at home with blankets and treats inside, and take short drives that don’t always end at the vet.
🐾 Bring comfort items to your appointment. Toys or treats from home can help pets feel more secure during their visit.
🐾 Try to avoid arriving TOO early to your appointment (more than 10 minutes). Sitting in a busy lobby for a long time can increase anxiety for some pets. We like to be able to move you into a comfortable exam room as soon as you arrive!
🐾 Stay calm! Pets pick up on our emotions, so a relaxed, positive attitude can go a long way.

If your pet has significant anxiety or fear around vet visits, always check in with us ahead of time. Many pets benefit from a customized care plan.

Heartworm disease is serious, sneaky, and 100% something we want to catch early 🦟❤️

That’s why we recommend heartworm testing every 12 months, even if your pup is on prevention year-round. Preventatives are highly effective, but we're not perfect! Doses can be missed, pets can spit out medication... Annual testing provides peace of mind by making sure your dog is truly protected!

If your dog has not been on consistent heartworm prevention, we recommend testing every 6 months because of the heartworm's lifecycle. It can take time for an infection to show up on a test. More frequent testing helps us catch an infection as early as possible, when treatment is safer and more effective.

This is some eye-opening information! According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, confirmed cases of Lyme Disease in humans have jumped from 553 in 2022 to 2,167 in 2025.

Lyme disease is becoming extremely prevalent in our area and it is important we take precautions for ourselves and our pets!

Lyme disease cases in Michigan nearly quadrupled between 2022 and 2025 as the state's tick population surges.

This 15 minute test gives us SO MUCH information! We recommend an annual Heartworm and Tickborne Disease test so we can catch these sneaky diseases before they become serious. 🔬🦠🦟
