This is an independent community page that aids WWAS residents to find adopters through social media. These funds provide for the operation of the shelter only.

WWAS is a rural shelter located about 40 miles east of Athens. We specialize in both cat and dog adoptions and occasionally small animal adoptions. We only accept owner surrenders and/or strays from Wilkes County residents. The shelter is funded by the City of Washington and Wilkes County. The Washington Wilkes Humane Association (WWHSA) was created to help with expenses ( medical surgeries, spay, neuter, vaccinations, etc.) not covered by the City/County funding. The WWHSA is a 501(c)3 and all donations are tax deducible.

Washington Wilkes Animal Shelter recently rescued these nine sweet dogs from unfavorable living conditions. They are now safe and receiving the care, comfort, and attention they deserve.

Our shelter is currently caring for a large number of animals, and space is extremely limited. With modest funding, each additional animal places more pressure on our food, medical, and daily care budgets.

Community donations allow us to continue providing a safe place for animals who need us most. If you’re able to contribute, your support would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you for standing with our shelter and the animals in our care. 🐾

Meet Bunny’s five beautiful babies! 💕 Five tiny bundles of sweetness, and one very proud mama.

A new family means extra meals for Mom, clean bedding, puppy pads, and lots of careful attention. We’re grateful for all the little ways our community helps make sure every animal here gets the care they need. It truly adds up. 🐾

Clearly, these two didn't understand the assignment. The plan was to take their picture, but all they heard was "let's eat!". Artemis (female Calico) and D-Berry (Black male) are trying to make you think they are starving, but they aren't!!! This is freebie food they found on the counter🤣🤣 Both are 13 weeks old and current with their kitten shots and FIV/FeLV negative. Both are available for adoption and their fee is only $45 and includes their vaccinations, deworming, FIV/FeLV testing and a spay or neuter.

That’s right, we do plan to be at the festival with some dogs. The one shown here is not a shelter pup, but we will have others that are looking for homes. Be sure to stop by and see us🐕‍🦺❤️🦮🐩

Looking for love this fall? You just might find it at the I'd Rather Be In Tignall Fall Festival.

WWAS Pets will be joining us with your new best buddy ready for adoption — like this little snoozer 🐶 who’s dreaming of a forever home (and maybe a treat or two).

Stop by, meet your new best friend, and make this season truly heartwarming. Because nothing completes a cozy fall day like a wagging tail and a happy heart.
