💚 Even the Grinch couldn’t resist a rescue!💚

The Grinch from Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical stopped by HRA to host auditions for a new Max.

He met some adorable adoption candidates, and maybe even had a change of heart, but unfortunately forgot his ID (and pants) back in Whoville —which means all our sweet pups are still available for adoption!

✨ Don’t be a Grinch —adopt or foster to make this holiday season extra merry and check out The Grinch Musical at The National Theatre!

These amazing pups —Cobweb, Paddy Cakes, Gomez, and Pinky Promise— are ready to be home this holiday season!

These big dogs have so much love, fun, and cuddles to give and are hoping for the gift of what truly matters most: a loving family. Cobweb, Paddy Cakes, Gomez, and Pinky Promise are waiting for you at our 71 Oglethorpe St campus!

💙 Meet Vino 💙
Proof that fostering lets a dog’s true personality shine.

Vino has been thriving in his loving foster home—snoring like a champion, perfecting his naps, learning his leash skills, and showing us what a gentle, joyful soul he truly is. Fostering gives dogs the chance to decompress, feel safe, and show adopters exactly who they are—and Vino is shining ✨

Even better? His adoption fee is only $55 this week thanks to Washington Commanders Defensive End Jake Martin!

No hangovers with this fine gentleman—only love, happy tail wags, and endless sweetness. Vino came to us after his beloved elderly owner could no longer care for him. It was a sad goodbye, but his future is looking bright.

A few things his foster family wants you to know:
🐾 Loudest (and cutest) snorer you’ll ever hear
🐾 Loves his kennel and sleeps through the night
🐾 Gentle with toys (and even gentler with treats)
🐾 Dog-friendly and happy sharing space, food, and walks
🐾 Walks = his FAVORITE thing ever
🐾 Certified gentle giant

Looking for a big dog with an even bigger heart? Vino is ready. 💙

This rescue pup couldn’t take his eyes off the new movie… and honestly, we couldn’t either. 🐾

Not only did Merv steal our hearts, he's also helping to promote rescue and adoption through the movie and by helping real shelter dogs find homes.

We are very grateful to the team for sponsoring the adoption fees for Tater Tot and Gomez, because every dog deserves a chance at a great start and a great love story.

Here’s to stories that lift up rescue pets—on screen and in real life. ✨

On November 22, 2025, Tyson, an adult brindle-and-white Pitbull-type dog, was shot multiple times on the 600 block of 24th Street NE between 9–10 PM. He suffered severe wounds to his upper body and back. Tyson later died from his injuries.

We are heartbroken—and we are asking for your help.

HRA is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this act of animal cruelty. If you or anyone you know has any information, noticed anything unusual in the area on the 11/22, or have a tip to share anonymously, please call our Humane Protection Team.

We need your voice, your shares, and any information you may have.
📢 Please share this post widely.
📢 Please speak up if you know something.
📢 Let’s stand together for Tyson.

Three of our pups got break from the shelter last week and boy did they made the most of it! 🐾✨ Here’s what they were up to on their big adventures:

🧋Athena spent the day exploring Union Market, taking in the views, the breeze, and every interesting smell she could find. A true local queen. 👑💜

💼 Caboose clocked in for an office shift with his friend Melina — and yes, he was absolutely the most popular “employee” on the floor. Productivity? Up. Morale? Through the roof. 📈🐶

🏡 Charlie Bones “worked from home”… which really meant offering emotional support, moral encouragement, and the occasional snuggle. Honestly, the most important job of all. 😂❤️

Short-term outings like these help our dogs decompress, show their personalities to potential adopters, and remind them what it feels like to just be a dog.
