Did you remember to change your clocks? We fell back last night, which means everyone got an extra hour this weekend, and we're counting that as the very first thing we're thankful for this November.

Spend thirty seconds of it here with our marine betta. Fun fact: when it gets nervous, it tucks its head into the rocks and leaves its tail out. That spotted tail has a fake eye on it, so predators think they're looking at a moray eel instead. Sneaky, right?

Happy Halloween from all of us at Something Fishy!

We went digging through the archives and found these gems from Halloween 2008. A pup in a full pumpkin costume? Iconic. And yes, someone on the team carved a fish into a pumpkin, because of course they did.

A little tip from our team before tonight: overfeeding is one of the most common causes of cloudy aquarium water, so keep the candy for yourself and let your fish stick to their regular dinner.

What are you dressing up as this year?

Okay, can we talk about how perfectly named this little guy is? Meet the Halloween hermit crab, dressed for the season 365 days a year with those orange and red striped legs.

They're hard workers, too. They clean up leftover food and algae, which makes them a great part of a reef's cleanup crew.

Fun fact: hermit crabs move into bigger shells as they grow, so it's smart to keep a few empty spares around. Think of it as a tiny real estate market.

If you had one, would you name it Pumpkin or Candy Corn? Or something random, like Phil?

Ever wondered what actually happens when you get a custom aquarium? Spoiler: it's a lot simpler than you'd think.

It starts with a chat. We check out your space and talk through what you're picturing. Then you get to see the whole thing in 3D before anything gets built, so there are zero surprises.

From there, we build it, bring it in, and set it up. And the best part? We don't disappear after install day. We keep coming back to take care of it, and you get a written report after every visit.

Got questions about how it all works? Drop them below. We love this stuff. (Seriously...we LOVE this stuff)

Picture day, Something Fishy style.

Lights set, backdrop up, power pose locked in. Our team headshots are getting a refresh, and we couldn’t resist sharing a peek behind the camera.

DID YOU KNOW- we’re not the only ones who know how to pose. A male betta fish will flare his fins and gills out wide to look his VERY best, basically the fish version of hands on the hips.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled fish content for a very important announcement.

Meet Crew, Kurt’s golden retriever puppy, and the most patient breakfast guest we’ve ever seen. (Well...patient-ish. Keep an eye on the drool)

Here’s the fun part: fish do a version of this too. They’re a lot smarter than people give them credit for, and they quickly learn who feeds them and when. In plenty of aquariums, the fish crowd the front glass as soon as their person walks into the room. Same energy as Crew, a lot less drool.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled fish content.

But first, who does the breakfast stare at your house? Dog, cat, or fish? Drop a photo in the comments.
We want to see them all!

From the driveway, this Smithfield home is all trees, but...

Then you walk in and it’s palm-leaf wallpaper, bold color everywhere, and the kind of room you want to sink into and stay a while. Honestly, a total vibe.

We knew we wanted the aquarium to fit right in, not compete with all that personality. So, we went with a freestanding piece from our furniture collection: white cabinetry that looks like it was always part of the room, with driftwood, stone, and a whole lot of live plants inside.

Now there are woods outside and a little underwater forest inside. We love when a room comes full circle like that.

Okay, but now the real question: freshwater or saltwater? Which team are you on?

Meet Alex Claros, our Director of Operations

Alex joined us in 2016, fresh out of URI with a marine biology degree. He started as a field technician on service visits, moved up to service coordinator, and now leads our whole operations team. Not a bad run.

Off the clock, he’s bass fishing, golfing, scuba diving, or on stage singing and playing guitar with his band. Yes, really. The guy who plans your service visit also has a band...and they're REALLY good.

So if your visit goes smoothly, there’s a good chance Alex had a hand in it.

Drop a hello for him below (or at least a song request) and be sure to swipe to see if you could spot Alex in our 2019 oFISHal Staff Photo

Here's a fun one from Jamestown.

This office already had a gorgeous lobby: marble floors, warm wood slats, and a stone front desk. What it didn't have was a reason to stop and look.

So... we built one.

The reef sits inside a wood-slat cabinet that matches the walls, and all the filtration and life support is tucked away where nobody has to think about it.

Now the first thing people notice when they walk in isn't the front desk... It's the reef.

Swipe through and let us know: where would you put one?
