The news story I'm sharing is a heartbreaking reminder of something many pet owners don't realize: in many states, including Massachusetts and Connecticut, pet groomers are not required to be licensed.
That doesn't mean there aren't incredible groomers out there—it means it's even more important to do your homework before trusting someone with your beloved pet.
To me, education has always been one of the most important parts of being a professional groomer.
I attended and graduated from Petco's Groomer Training Program in 2005, but I never viewed that as the end of my education—it was just the beginning. Since then, I've continued my education through courses, seminars, workshops, and certifications. This September, I'll be attending Groom Expo in Hershey, where I'm already registered for several certificate courses to continue expanding my knowledge and skills.
As pet owners, don't be afraid to ask questions. A reputable groomer should welcome them.

Choosing a groomer isn't just about finding someone who can give a cute haircut. It's about finding someone who is committed to safety, continuing education, and treating your pet with the same care and respect they deserve.
