This weekend I was able to teach both Saturday and Sunday Group classes on LI. It’s a rarity to make both.

The happiest place for me in my dog training biz is at our group class. Specifically, the Saturday Wantagh class. It’s like my first baby who’s now turned 24 years old. We also have Sunday class which is a close second for me.

Its my happy place, where I’m often most creative, most inspired, and most comfortable. It’s been our class room, training ground, proving ground, test center for CGC and therapy dogs alike, rehab center for the skittish and aggressive, the place that built the BFDT community, the picnics, and even my last wedding party.

There’s been alot of memories made at these classes.

Over 24 years of group classes, we’ve helped thousands of clients and their dogs. We’ve trained dozens of apprentices here, and still do. It’s the one thing in my life I can look to and say, because of this, thousands of people are better off.

What’s interesting is each class develops its own personality over time. Saturday and Sunday are different. So this weekend I focused on different things at each class. Many more basics on Saturday, lots of more advanced concepts on Sunday. I think I’ll write about that in another post.

As I got under that pretty tree to take a picture with the remaining dogs at class (several left earlier), it dawned on me that what was supposed to only be my little part time business, is still making memories and helping people a quarter century later.

Thank you to all our clients and trainers through the years for making this happen.

It’s humbling to say the least.

If you are in the path of Helene, please write your pet's name and your phone number with a permanent marker on their belly. In the event you get separated or get lost during the storm, this could be the only thing that reunites you. Collars fall off, and chips can't be searched without the internet.

When working our board and trains we we often take pictures to send to our clients at home. We work alone until they can work up to groups. Then add my dogs as additional distraction. Todays place command with camera on tripod setup.
