Yesterday was a great end to the Sussex Benefit series for Adelyn and Holly and we are very proud of the progress that they have made together this year. In past shows where the classes were larger, Adelyn experienced a little anxiety about not bumping into other horses or getting in others' way. But they have practiced keeping their eyes up and planning ahead, and they put that to good use in a sightly crowded Mini Stirrup Eq division. They placed well and we were all so happy when we saw the smiles at the end of their classes. But the day continued with an appearance by Cruella DeVille and one of the Dalmatians in the Halloween Costume class! A great time was had by all, and we are already looking forward to coming out for the Mini Stirrup Hunters in the Spring! Enjoy the pictures.

Yesterday was a very sad day at the Farm as we had to say goodbye to two of our long-time retirees. Even Mother Nature cried at the loss of Star Player (Mr. P) and Maple. Mr. P was a legendary pony who taught SO many kids (and a few smaller adults) to ride and love the equestrian life. From lead line to Pony Hunter, he ruled the ring for many years, until Cushings and founder forced him into retirement. Many of his past riders and some previous owners stopped over in his last week to say goodbye and everyone had funny stories to share. He will be sadly missed. Maple was one of our retired broodmares, who we rescued from her previous owner. She came to us 9 months pregnant, covered in rain rot, with her bones sticking out and still nursing her yearling from the previous year. When he was born, her foal had some deficits from his mother's poor treatment, and he spent several days in intensive care at Furlong's clinic. Maple had a total of 7 foals in her lifetime and was the most awesome mother to them all. Recently, her knee that had broken while she was on the track had a piece break off again. That and an old hock injury were casing her increasing discomfort, and it was clear it was time to let her go. Both horses are now resting next to old friends and family members, where their souls left to cross the rainbow bridge to be with their loved ones. Run free my loves - you deserve it.

Another very successful day today at the Smoke Rise Riding Club horse show. Today it was Jackie and Four Farthings Rosemary (Rosie) in the big hunter ring doing the Hopeful Hunters at 2 Feet. They had three solid rounds and a very nice under saddle which earned them the Reserve Champion ribbon! We had planned to enter her into the Derby, too, but it was obvious that she was getting tired, so we thought better of it. We are all very pleased with her first time in the ring at a recognized show since last year. Congrats, "girls"!!

It was a momentous day for Adelyn and Holly. Today they had their first jumping lesson!! I was so very proud of them. Holly took it all in stride like the pro she is, and that instilled confidence in Adelyn who looked like a pro herself after just a few tries. We are striving for Mini Stirrup Hunters in 2026! Keep an eye on this pair 'cause they're goin' places together.

This past Sunday was an awesome day for a horse show, and we had an awesome Dressage Schooling Show at Four Farthing Farm! With entries from Intro A to Fourth Test 1 to Western Dressage, there was something for everyone. There were too many results to mention them all, but our High Score Pony for the day was Mystic Sugarwood with an Intro B Score of 68.000%, our High Point Senior Horse was Redford with an Intro A score of 65.000%, and our High Point Overall was Acacia with a First Level Test 2 score of 68.333%! This was our last Dressage Schooling Show for 2025, so we also awarded our Series Championships. They were as follows:

Training Champion: Q'Rava JR DRH (average score 66.500%)
Training Res Champion: Helaina H (average score 63.075%)
First Level Champion: Sukie Rae RH (average score 63.334%)
First Level Res Champion: Comin' Round (average score 60.650%)
Fourth Level Champion: Que RH (average score 59.474%)
Western Dressage Champion: Chance of a Lifetime (score 64.659%)

And for those who would like to win one of our really beautiful neck sashes or huge rosettes for themselves in 2026, entries for High Point awards (which are given out at every show) or Series Awards (must attend 2 of our 3 shows each year) are at no cost - enter classes and you are automatically eligible.

Congrats to all of our riders! And we look forward to seeing you next year!!

Here are a couple of quick updates for the upcoming Four Farthing Dressage Schooling show on the 24th. Our judge for the day will be Kari Allen (a correction to the prize list which incorrectly listed Carol Seaman). And we are beginning to tally scores for the Series Championships! Only 3 horses have already qualified so far (Q'Rava JRD RH, Helaina H, and Sukie Rae RH) but many have signed up for this to be their second qualifying show! Note that there will be a minor change to the scoring - a horse and rider combination must still have at least 2 scores from 2 different shows in the respective level, but if a pair has more than 4 scores in a single level, only the top 4 will be used to calculate the average for the Championship (lower scores will be dropped). So, get those entries in by this Wednesday the 20th at 7 PM and get your top scores counted towards our year end sashes!

Meet Canella (aka “Cinnamon”). This 4 year old Westphalian mare with lots of chrome by Con Capilot out of Eclaire (aka Escarda, a State Premium Hanoverian mare) by Escudo I is a very special girl. Lovely looks, lovely movement, lovely personality, terrific conformation, and so much potential. She is currently 16.3 hands and will likely top out around 17-17.1 hands. She already trailers, ties, clips, bathes, and is good for the blacksmith. Recent X-rays were clean, including her neck. She is a bona fide top prospect in multiple disciplines including Equitation, Jumper, and Hunter Derby.
Her sire, Con Capilot, is the product of superior jumping bloodlines including Contender, Capitol I, and Pilot. He passes on to his offspring his brilliant athleticism, enviable conformation, and fantastic temperament. He had top placings as a 4, 5, and 6 year old in the Young Jumper Classes, accomplishments that he continued when he moved up to the 1.40 meter classes, 7 and 8 year old classes, and then to the Grand Prix at multiple major shows. He finished his 2012 season with his first FEI World Cup Qualifier class in Las Vegas.
Cinnamon's dam, Eclaire (aka Escarda) was USDF Region 8 Champion mare and Reserve Champion mature horse in 2003. She continued garnering wins and high score awards in dressage and eventing even after having 5 foals. At 15 years of age, in 2016, she competed in USEA eventing and earned a Gold Medal in Novice, 5th in USEF for the NE region, and qualified and competed at Tryon in the USEA Championships at training level placing in the top 5 out of 30 in the dressage phase.
Cinnamon herself showed in hand at the USDF Breeders Championships for Region 8 as a foal, winning Champion filly foal and Reserve Champion foal in 2021. She has been in professional training for the past couple of months and is always willing and calm, riding alone or in company. She always wants to please her people and tries new things without drama. This is a rare opportunity to have a partner that will take you just as far as you want to go! She is located in northern NJ. Available for 35 carrots. Please PM for more information. Pictures courtesy of Kelly Lemenze Photography.
