🌡️ Heat Safety Reminder for Dog Walks 🌡️

With temperatures rising over the next few days, it’s important to remember how quickly dogs can overheat during routine walks.

- Protect paw pads -
Pavement can reach dangerous temperatures fast on a 90°F day, asphalt can exceed 140°F, which is hot enough to cause burns within seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws.

- Walk during cooler hours -
Dogs regulate heat less efficiently than humans. Early morning and late evening walks help reduce exposure to peak ground and air temperatures.

- Watch for overheating -
Dogs don’t cool down the same way we do. Panting is normal, but excessive panting, drooling, disorientation, slowed movement, or seeking shade constantly can be early signs of heat stress.

- Take shade breaks -
Resting in shaded areas helps lower body temperature and reduces strain on the heart and respiratory system. Even short breaks can significantly reduce overheating risk.
Dogs can overheat faster than expected, especially in direct sun or on hot surfaces, prevention is key.

For our frequent Paws & Walks clients, if you anticipate any changes to your dog’s routine during the warmer weather, please feel free to reach out before your scheduled walk! We’re always happy to coordinate and adjust care to best support your pup’s needs.
Thank you so much for trusting us with your pet’s care this summer, we truly appreciate you 💛🐾
