AWA was founded in 1948 by a small group of community activists who wanted to address and help the issue of unwanted pets in our community. In our adoption program, we have dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals. We also have a pet clinic that allows us to further our mission to provide affordable, high-quality healthcare to pets in our community. You can

Tales with Tails is back! 📚🐾

Kids ages 5+ are invited to join us at AWA for our Tales with Tails Reading Program — where young readers help comfort shelter animals just by reading aloud. It’s a heartwarming way to build confidence, develop literacy skills, and help animals get adopted faster! 🐶🐱💛

Each session starts with a quick 15-minute orientation (unless your child has already attended one). After that, it’s story time with our furry friends!

👉 Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
📖 Kids can bring a favorite book or choose one from our on-site mini library.

🐾 One parent/guardian must attend per child (if you’re bringing multiple kids, one extra adult is welcome).

For just $10, you can choose from 5 bold colors and buy a 9-inch pot covered in blooms! All flowers come from G and G farms in Swedesboro, New Jersey. All mums will be delivered to AWA for pickup on September 27th, where they will be sorted and orders pulled for pickup.
