Animal Orphanage is a community shelter and adoption center serving 26 towns in southern NJ We are also an Adoption Center. Visit www.aonj.org to learn more!
Animal Orphanage (AO) was founded in 1988, and we are a community shelter, providing services for cats and dogs for 26 towns across southern NJ, 22 of which are located in Camden County. That means when space allows, we are able to rescue cats & dogs from over-crowded, high-kill shelters and rescues. We work with local, regional and national shelters and rescue groups, saving lives wherever and wh
enever we can. More than half of the revenue necessary for operations is provided by a strong community of donors and supporters. An equally robust community of hard-working volunteers supports our experienced staff members in providing care for all of the animals that come through our doors. Please consider supporting our efforts at www.aonj.org/donate! AO provides municipal sheltering services for the towns of: Audubon, Barrington, Berlin Borough, Berlin Township, Cherry Hill, Chesilhurst, Clementon, Collingswood, Gibbsboro, Gloucester City, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Laurel Springs, Lawnside, Magnolia, Merchantville, Mount Ephraim, Stratford, Voorhees, Woodlynne and Waterford Twp. We also serve 4 municipalities in Salem County: Alloway, Elmer, Elsinboro, and Woodstown. We encourage you to visit us and meet our beloved orphans. While here you will see that we are at long last in our highly anticipated new facility! While the project is complete, we are still in need of funding. Please consider making a donation that will help us reach our goal of being debt-free! www.aonj.org/donate
Please note that we are closed to the public every MONDAY for deep cleaning and staff in-service training.

Hopper is a 12-year-old gentleman looking for a loving retirement home where he can enjoy his golden years in comfort. He's dog-friendly and doesn't ask for much-just a warm bed, a calm home, and a kind, gentle touch.
Hopper has cataracts but can still see, and they don't slow him down from enjoying the things he loves most. He spends much of his day snoozing peacefully, but he truly comes alive for soft belly rubs and quiet affection.
If you have room in your heart for a senior who will reward you with gratitude and gentle love, Hopper would make a wonderful companion. https://www.aonj.org/adopt/dogs/

Lady Gaga is a 1 year old beauty who was found by a Good Samaritan. She's extremely shy but accepts gentle pets and is not reactive when we pet her. She'll need a quiet home with a very patient owner who will give her plenty of time to get used to her new environment. If you think you have what it takes to help this sweet lady be the best she can be, please stop by the Animal Orphanage soon and ask for Lady Gaga. đ https://www.vaonj.org/adopt/cats/

Chrissy is a 3-year-old terrier mix bursting with happy, playful energy and a whole lot of love to give. She came to us alongside three other dogs after their devoted owner sadly passed away. It's clear they were well cared for, making this transition especially tough-but Chrissy's bright spirit is already shining through.
Chrissy can be a little shy at first, but once she warms up, she becomes your very best friend. This sweet girl is affectionate, fun, and always ready for the next adventure. She would likely thrive with a canine companion who can keep up with her exuberant personality and enjoy plenty of playtime together.
Because she has so much energy, a securely fenced yard is a must so she can safely run, explore, and burn off that enthusiasm. Chrissy will benefit from some basic training to help her channel her excitement and become the very best version of herself. Due to her lively nature, a home with older kids would be the best fit.
With her loving heart and joyful outlook, Chrissy is ready to bring laughter, activity, and companionship to her forever home. If you're looking for a sweet, energetic best friend to share life's adventures, Chrissy might just be your perfect match.

Deputy & Chief are now accepting pets at Petco! These beautiful boys were rescued from an overcrowded living situation. They are slowly settling in and seem to know they are safe and loved, and they are ready to find a nice quiet home. Deputy is a 1 year old friendly orange fellow, while 2 year old orange & white guy Chief prefers to stay in the background. But they both enjoy cuddling together and grooming each other and they'd be happiest if they could be together forever. If you have room in your heart and home for these dear little boys, please send us your application for Deputy & Chief via our website and we will arrange for you to meet them. They'll be waiting for you at Petco on Tuckahoe & Berlin Cross Keys Road in Sewell, NJ and they hope to see you soon!đ§Ąđ§Ą https://www.vaonj.org/adopt/cats

Chester wants to remind you it's Save a Senior Sunday! This 10 year old tuxedo with the light green eyes was found as a stray. He's friendly and curious and playful, too. And because he sometimes gets overstimulated and may swat a little, we'd recommend a home with older kids. But he might be okay with a kitty buddy with a slow introduction. We've also learned that Chester is hyperthyroid. He takes his meds like a champ and is doing well. If you'd like to give a very special senior cat a chance at a new life, please stop by the Animal Orphanage today and say hello to Chester. đ https://www.vaonj.org/adopt/cats/

Bing is a happy 2-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix with a big personality and an adventurous spirit. He's a silly, active boy who's always ready for fun and loves to stay on the move.
Bing enjoys playing ball, going on long walks, and exploring new places. He's dog friendly and would do best in a home with a secure fenced area where he can safely burn off his energy and play to his heart's content.

The Voorhees Animal Orphanage (âVAOâ) is a Municipal Animal Shelter dedicated to providing shelter, food and medical care to stray and unwanted animals, until permanent homes can be found. We presently serve 19 municipalities in Camden County NJ. That is more than half of the county! We also serve 7 municipalities in Salem County as well. If your cat or dog gets lost in these areas, odds are they will be brought to the VAO. We do not discriminate against any breed, nor do we turn an animal away due to medical conditions or age. Each and every animal in our shelter receives individual consideration and attention, regardless of the number of animals we may have in our care
We are also an Adoption Center. That means when space allows, we are able to rescue cats & dogs from over-crowded, high-kill shelters and rescues. We work with local shelters such as Burlington County Animal Shelter and Philly ACCT. Weâve worked with shelters in Northern NJ have many rescue partners in southern states, and as far away as Puerto Rico!
In 2019 we were able to save the lives of over 1,800 cats and dogs who made their way to our shelter. We have saved over 30,000 lives since our inception in 1988!
The Voorhees Animal Orphanage is not funded by the county, and receives no state or federal funding either. The only guaranteed income we receive is from the municipalities we have contracts with. Otherwise, we rely very heavily on the generosity of charitable donations to help us meet our budget. We are very grateful to all of our supporters.
There are lots of great ways that you can get involved and join our community. Make sure to follow us on Facebook where we have over 76,000 followers! We are on Instagram (vaonjorg), Twitter and Linkedin too!
Better yet, stop to visit us. Weâre located at 419 Cooper Rd in Voorhees, right next to the Firehouse!
