Friends, we have a question: can you think of a better way to honor National Black Cat Day than by celebrating Joe’s adoption?! 🎉 🎉

Joe is one of our coffee kids and came into our care with his siblings Americano, Latte and Java. Fortunately for them, they’ve all been long adopted, while Joe has sat in the shadows patiently and calmly waiting for someone to notice him.

Unlike his siblings, Joe is a bit more introverted. He doesn’t demand attention - and sometimes he doesn’t want any at all. But what he does want (& need) is reassurance, safety and love. Because we know one thing is for sure - when he gets all of those and trusts his people, he’ll be seeking out attention as if he was never afraid to start with.

Joe’s new parents intentionally sought out a more introverted kid to help their more shy kitty at home. They have experience helping bring kitties out of their shells while honoring their boundaries. To say they were perfect for him is an understatement - so much so that we allowed Joe to quietly go into his kennel without a grand adoption day photo, knowing that his feeling secure was everyone’s number one priority.

Instead, his parents promised us a photo once he started gaining confidence and we don’t think there was a better day to receive it than on a day dedicated to our mini house panthers.

Joe, we are so proud of you - for going outside of your comfort zone, for trusting us enough to trust your new family and for working hard so everything becomes a little less scary. You deserve this kid & it has been an honor to care for you. 🖤

We remember it vividly. We were getting out of chores late on a Wednesday evening, long after 8:00pm. After being up and going for 15 hours that day, we were tired, but as soon as we walked outside and got in the car, we saw a tiny kitten. The three of us doing chores that night quickly called each other, developed a plan and went on a mission to rescue the tiny kitten. What we found, though, was not one kitten, but two.

Fast forward 20 minutes and we had two kittens in our care: Sprout and Blossom. Trembling with fear, these two were distraught in new surroundings. But, over time, they slowly let their guards down. Sprout began coming out of his shell and showed us what a sweet, lovable and fantastic kitten he is. He also told us that being in a big place with lots of people, constant changes and the noise of cans in the basement is scary - and that’s okay. We told Sprout we understood and promised him we’d find him a quiet, calm and consistent home. And today, that’s exactly what he got.

Jaime and Peter were specifically looking for an introverted boy to be their more shy girl’s best friend. They wanted someone that would compliment her; one that would play but know when it’s time to be done; one that would snuggle and be a companion and one that would be equally laid back and not try to challenge her.

When they saw Sprout online, they knew he was the one and as soon as we started discussing him with them, we agreed. Sprouty has needed his chance at his very own home and we couldn’t be more grateful to his new parents. Today as we said goodbye, we told Sprout to be brave and promised him - this is everything he could ever want. ❤️

We’re sorry, but HOW have these two not found homes yet? Clara and Boyd are both two of the sweetest cats around. Laid back, quiet, affectionate and playful - they are truly the perfect companions.
