Thankful doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel about our BT family. Every single day the BT crew dedicates a part of themselves, fully & selflessly. It doesn’t matter what the event is or how long it takes, because we know that we are better together than we are individually.

Today the BT team impressed us yet again - by saving 3 lives.

Earlier this week, we rescued two local kittens after our nightly chores. Today, the 2 remaining littermates were found. But these two made things much more interesting as they were inside of a heavy, rusty, metal pole. Reaching them was not an option, but leaving them wasn’t either. After trying to rescue them outdoors, we knew the only option we had was to bring the pole inside of the adoption center. That way, if the kittens got out, they couldn’t accidentally run into traffic or a place they could get hurt.

It took our team nearly 90 minutes to coax the first kitten out and when we called in reinforcement, the second kitten was rescued too.

As our two original kittens saw their siblings being saved, they started mewing. Watching them cuddle in together was the only thing we needed to know that our efforts were absolutely worth it.

These 4 babies are now snuggled in tight, the first night of their lives that all 4 are safe & away from a heavy traffic area.

We woke up this morning knowing we had a big day ahead of us, but never imagined this detour. Meanwhile, another member of our team spent most of the day a bit further south in Johnson County, getting prompt medical care for our boy, JJ.

JJ came into our care from CRACC several months ago. At that time, they were calling him muffler, stating that his purr sounds like one. Lately, J has been acting off and we realized - he didn’t sound like a muffler because of a purr, he sounded like it because we believed he had a polyp in his throat. CRACC had told us a small polyp was removed when he was neutered, so we made an appointment to determine if it had grown back.

Unfortunately, J started to decline this week, so we moved his appointment up a few days. Yesterday, though, he wouldn’t eat for us and we knew he couldn’t wait. Although Dr Loni was unavailable today, she connected us with Dr Jana, who agreed to not only evaluate J, but surgically remove the polyp today.

As soon as he was sedated, Dr Jana knew we were correct as it was difficult to intubate JJ. When she removed it, she immediately saw that it was monstrous - almost an inch in size. As the polyp grew, it was making it more and more difficult for him to eat, drink and breathe comfortably. Without intervention, it would have continued to grow, and could have at an aggressive rate.

JJ had a long day as he was loaded up and on the road by 8am this morning - but as an even bigger surprise, his driver waited in the parking lot for him until late this afternoon when he was ready to come home.

How we were so lucky to meet these amazing people we’ll never know, but we are forever thankful for their friendship, dedication and selflessness.

Tonight we want to thank Shane & Rachel for their tremendous efforts and commitment to helping rescue the kittens; Tammy, Brie & Koby for coming as back up & Grace for being J’s personal Uber. Thank you isn’t ever enough, but we hope 3 lives saved is. ❤️

Have you ever been in a situation where you feel so out of place that it puts you on edge? Where being your true self feels scary and vulnerable, so instead you put on a hard front? Where you want to put your walls down, but as much as you tell yourself to, you just can’t?

That’s exactly how Reba has felt since she came to BT. At her finder’s, in quarantine, in the car and at the vet, we have seen the lovable and silly girl that we know Reba is. But, being placed into a strange place with 30 other cats has been overwhelming for Reba. She has understandably protected herself by sternly telling the other cats “no thank you” and making it known she wanted to be alone.

But, we always hoped she could allow herself to decompress enough to make friends. Lately, she’s been showing us signs of a more relaxed girl and tonight - well tonight was a night we’ll never forget.

We decided to let Reba explore, with the other cats running around. Instead of instigating them, she backed down. Instead of running toward them, she ran with them. And instead of hissing and chasing everyone away, she beautifully coexisted.

There were moments where she started to get overwhelmed, then distracted herself with toys and cat scratchers. She had many chances to hiss at the kittens, but instead chose to ignore them. Most of all, she allowed herself to run, play and be free.

We know that Reba’s acclimation to other cats will take time. Some days will be a hard pass while others will go smoothly like today. But what we can say for certain is that Reba, we are beyond proud of you. We promised you at intake and we’ll promise you again, we will never ever give up on you.

Keep allowing yourself to shine, Reba, because the best version of you is irresistible. ❤️

Did you know black cats used to be the most overlooked in shelters, but now the tabby cat is quickly approaching the top of that list too?

Why? We have no idea! We love our tabbies & we know there are others out there who agree with us. So why not adopt your very own tabby and show the world how amazing they are?

Pennie is cuddly, playful and downright adorable. Born in our care on 3/13, this little love muffin is well socialized and ready for a home of her own!

Like any gentleman would, just under two weeks ago, Marley looked at his sister and said, “ladies first” as he helped us send Marie off to her new home.

…but it was quickly followed up with, “and now it’s my turn!”

Marley is the fun of every party; the silly friend that’s a little bit embarrassing and the lovable uncle that you can’t get enough of. He’s also been incredibly ready and deserving of his very own home.

But, Marley is a social guy. He needs a home with at least one other bud to keep him company. And we couldn’t have dreamt of a better pairing than our boy, Arthur.

Arthur is the calm to Marley’s crazy and the reserved to his wild side. But no one has been a better snuggle buddy for Marley. These two use each others tummies as pillows, groom each others faces and spend their days snuggled in the sun together.

Marley & Arthur are both independently so special to us and together, an incredible duo. Enjoy your new lives and home, boys! The best is yet to come.

Americano is proudly wearing his red, white and blue! Will you help this boy find a family? Although he can be a bit timid in new situations, he comes out of his shell rather quickly and then it’s watch out world, because Americano is going to make his presence known! This guy is as energetic as he is cute - and one look at his photo says that’s a LOT! He would do best in a home with another young cat or kitten, so those looking to adopt 2 would be ideal. Americano wants to run, romp and play - but a lap waiting for him at the end of a long night is key. Americano has already seen 3 of his 4 siblings go home; will he be next?
