When you adopt 2, you save 4 lives… the 2 you adopt and the 2 that take their place. Except for Eileen, Didi and Howard’s mom, because her 4 turned into 8 because she referred Deb and Doug to us and they adopted a duo of their own! Genesis and Oliver are the cutest little pair and we know they’ll know nothing but love from here on out. Congratulations, babies!

Even in 100° heat, the volunteers at BT can’t be beat.

We spent this morning hauling 21,000 cans and bottles for pick up & while we were hot & sweaty, we know that can duty is always worth it as it allows us to care for sweet kids like Cade.

Cade came to us with his 6 siblings via a fellow rescuer and after a busy morning, things quieted down just in time for a fantastic meet and greet.

Thank you to all of the volunteers that were able to help today & to this incredible family for providing Cade such a great home! Happy Gotcha Day, Cade!

Consider adopting Genesis!

Genesis is a beautiful girl looking for lasting love through adoption. She came to us after being rescued with her 6 littermates and is now looking for a home of her own to thrive in. She is a bit reserved in new situations and needs a home that’ll cuddle and pamper her, but is a total snuggle bug when she knows you. Genesis has an exceptional motor and is a snuggler extraordinaire. She needs a home that’ll be patient with her and pamper her to her hearts content. She’d love a home with another kitten to keep her company and is ready for a family to say “I choose you!”

HEAT WARNING!

Our area is in a heat warning this weekend, which means while you’re trying to stay cool, our pets need to be too!

During this excessive heat, go the extra mile to make sure animals are not in distress. Take your pups on quick potty breaks and then occupy their minds with fun and stimulating activities inside! Place an extra bowl of water outside within reach of our wildlife friends and, if you see an animal in a locked car with no air conditioning, seek help! Car temperatures rise to dangerous levels within minutes. If it’s too hot for us, it’s too hot for them.

As we gear up for high level heat indexes again this week, this is your reminder to be animal aware. Be extra cautious with your own pets & be sure to pay attention to animals around you and take action if there is an animal in distress!

This week in our area it is going to be too hot for animals to be outside more than they need to be. Quick potty breaks are all they need! Even a minute on concrete or in a hot car can mean a severe burn, heat stroke or worse for your furry family members.

If you’re able, please also consider filling up your bird baths and leaving water out for our ground level friends.

Long days make for long weeks and usually by Friday, we are pretty tired. But nothing rejuvenates us more than an adoption and sending sweet Adelaide home tonight made for a fantastic Friday! Happy gotcha day, darling!

Those that follow us will immediately recognize one of the sweetest faces… our sweet Hazel. Hazel came into our care in the fall of 2023 and has puzzled us ever since. Her severe allergies have had multiple providers stumped and right when we were exploring additional options, she fell ill with FIP.

Not only is FIP fatal if not treated, but Hazel’s suppressed immunity from her FIV made her an exceptionally fragile case. Our quest for answers regarding her allergies took a back seat as we fought for her life treating FIP, but certainly wasn’t forgotten. Hazel successfully conquered FIP and after waiting through an observation period, was started on additional medications. Today she went for a recheck and was given a positive review! Her fabulous doctor saw a significant improvement to her skin & coat, telling us we may be on the right track. While we previously tried medicated baths and mousses without success, we decided to try again, hoping that in conjunction with her medication, it could provide some relief.

As soon as Hazel was brought back to the adoption center today, she got a cool water medicated bath. She wasn’t sure at first if she liked it, but quickly learned that the cool water, and massage while the shampoo was rubbed in, felt awfully nice….and for the very first time outside of the lows of her FIP illness, Hazel went cone free, for the entirety of chore time. The difference today was that Hazel is happy, healthy and feeling great. We know that it’s too soon to tell if the baths will give her long term relief, but little wins are huge wins in our book. To see Hazel cuddle up, feeling good and relaxed, is one the best moments we’ve ever experienced.

We promise you, Hazel, we will get to the bottom of your allergies and will never, ever give up on you. We love you, sweet girl!
