Sarah's Second Chance Dog Rescue

Sarah's Second Chance Dog Rescue We are a small non-profit dog rescue. We rescue dogs from high-kill shelters, on their last day. We give them a second chance at life.

Most of these dogs have never felt a loving home, a warm bed, a toy to play with, or someone to just give them a pat on the head. We rescue dogs from shelters and owner surrenders from the state of Connecticut. We are a very small dedicated group, who run this rescue only on donations, and out of our own pockets. Any donation is never too little and it is always greatly appreciated. We also help f

amilies, who need to surrender their dogs, and we will help them find foster homes or forever homes for them. When we rescue a dog, the dog is brought to the vet to get a clean bill of health. They are given a Rabie shot, Distemper shot, Bordetella shot, checked for Lyme Disease, Heartworm and for Parasites. Then they are micro-chipped and neutered or spayed. If we have a dog that has medical issues, and they need surgery, we try to do a fundraiser to help with the medical bills. We pay for all vet bills out of our own pockets, so any donation is greatly appreciated. It's with a very heavy heart, we lost a very sweet little senior yesterday named Gypsy Rose. She was 16 years old.

She came into our rescue 9 years ago with a severely dangling broken left rear leg that was never attended to for about 7 years.. We expected her leg to be amputated, but Dr Lansdowne from Pieper Veterinary Hospital, decided to try to save her leg. She had multiple surgeries, and they did save her leg. She ended up breaking her leg again, so we decided to keep her as a sanctuary dog because of the cost of the surgeries and the fear of her breaking her leg again.

Gypsy was the sweetest little dog ever. She loved everybody! She loved running up and down the fence line with our neighbors dog Fraggle! She loved being held, car rides and her walks and especially all her doggie friends in her pack. She always was the first one to go and meet a new dog that was coming into the pack.

In her elder years, Gypsy ended up having heart issues, but that didn't stop her. She was on different heart meds and lived on for many years. Recently, her kidneys started having issues. She fought a good battle, but in the end, it was just too much for her. She know she was loved right up till her last breath. She was ready to leave us yesterday.

Thanks to Dr Roy and the staff at Tolland Veterinary Hospital for all your help with Gypsy and all the kind words with Gypsy's passing. Thank you Dr Roy for helping Gypsy cross over to the Rainbow Bridge.

RIP Gypsy Rose. 💔🌈
I know Eddie was there waiting for you to help you cross over the Rainbow Bridge and all the other dogs that passed on before you to greet you there. You will never be forgotten. Till we meet again, love you much and you will always have a piece of my heart. ❤

Along with the refundable bottle and cans, we now take all juice, sport drinks, tea and coffee bottles and cans.
They can be dropped off any time or day and left by the garage doors at 182 Skinner Rd, Vernon CT 06066. We are always in need of refundable bottles and cans. You think it's only 10 cents, but those 10 cents add up and help us with paying vet bills for all our rescue and sanctuary dogs. This is a great way to donate to our rescue. It is an on going collection yearly. Please, help us and donate your refundable bottles and cans to our rescue.

Our Story

We are a small non-profit (not a 501c3) dog rescue. We are a 501 registered with the State of Connecticut and we have a EIN #. We are a very small dedicated group (Sue Phelps, Ed LeGault, Allison Vorchheimer, Robbi Lee Roy, Jay Phelps and Fran Skoglund), who run this rescue only on donations, and out of our own pockets. Any donation is never too little and it is always greatly appreciated. We also help families, who need to surrender their dogs, and we will help them find foster homes or forever homes for them.

We also have dogs that are non-adoptable because of medical and behavior issues (mostly senior dogs) and they will stay with us until the end of their lives. They will be our sanctuary dogs. Come visit us on Facebook and "LIKE" us... Website: www.sarahs-secondchance.com
