April 21 ,2025
A resident notified the Animal Control Department of finding a deceased animal in the woods. The resident felt the animal could have been a small dog. Animal Control Officers responded to the wooded area between Grand Avenue and the Vernon Gate Way Trail. About 100 feet off the trail, they found a deceased small breed dog. Possible, terrier of sorts or a long-haired Chihuahua. It was estimated by the Officers the dog had been in the area for a month or two. The dog was black, longer wiry type fur. The dog weight was estimated at 10-15 lbs. Due to the decay the s*x was not able to be determined. The dog was scanned for a micro-chip, nothing was found. The dog was wearing a Soresto Collar.

f you have any information on someone missing a dog similar to this, during this time frame Have them Call Vernon Animal Control 860-870-3558. It is a sad. But someone might need closure

Animal Control has been in contact with a representative from Dog Gone Recovery, it had been determined this is not the 4/14/25 missing Manchester Dog.

For Connecticut’s black bears, hyperphagia is in full swing! This time of year, bears are typically very active, looking to maximize their food intake to build up fat reserves before the winter denning season.

During this annual power-eating marathon, known as hyperphagia, black bears can eat upwards of 20,000 calories a day. That’s roughly the equivalent of 36 Big Macs!

This fall, encourage bears to forage naturally on native nuts and berries by denying them access to calorie-rich bird seed, garbage, and other human-related foods. Livestock and beehives should be protected with electric fencing year-round to prevent bear conflicts from occurring.

- The male dog is named Buddy, he is a 2-year-old brindle coat pit mixed male that is NOT neutered. He is a very friendly sweet dog that loves to give kisses and play, he enjoys tug of war a lot too. He does get along with other animals, but if they growl or bark first he will end up being the more aggressive one while defending himself. I am unsure of how much he weighs but I estimate between 40lbs to 60lbs. He’s a huge cuddle bug too.

- The female dog is Dolly, she is a 3-year-old chocolate pit mix, she is more docile than Buddy but can have her moments of high energy. She loves to relax mainly, but happily go on a walk. She is spade. Very sweet as well, enjoys cuddling and providing kisses. She is kennel trained. She is bigger than Buddy, and as for weight I want to estimate between 60lbs and 80lbs.

They are both child friendly (toddler and up).

Neither of them are caught up on vaccines, but I am trying to correct that (most places I have contacted tho have a LONG wait time to get an animal in).

They are both rescues from Georgia because their previous owners have tried to physically just throw them out onto the streets, and I couldn’t bring myself to let them suffer in the after math of the storm that just hit.

Both probaly better with out cats.
