Reasons why we check our newborns everyday:

1. We start checking on babies right after they are born. We make sure all the babies are in the box (mom can not pickup and move the babies once they are born) and that mom pulled enough fur to keep them warm.
Moms do not care that the babies are touched, we like to give our moms supplements (they think they are treats) after they give birth and during the duration of nursing to help with milk production and to give them enough protein to keep up their body condition.

2. If a baby passes away, it needs to be removed from the nest quickly to prevent chills in the other baby as well as keeping the nest clean. Unfortunately it happens and it’s important to protect the surviving kits.

3. We check to make sure all the babies are being fed enough and no one is falling behind. Mother rabbits spend very little time with their babies, typically only feeding for a few minutes once or twice a day. We need to make sure mom is producing enough milk for her kits and know if any kits need additional feedings to keep up. In larger litters, it’s not uncommon for one or two babies to fall behind.

4. We like to keep an eye on the progress of our babies as they grow. While this is the least important reason, for us we like to log all our litters including color, s*x, health, etc. to keep track of our lines and what our does produce. All our litters our logged in our software for pedigree purposes.

Today we had to bring one of our rabbits to the vet. 💔Typically I try to treat as much as I can at home, but when we need a vet we just go.

Earlier today I took out Sage to do a full body check over and give her a shave down as she was expected to have a litter this weekend. As soon as I took her out I noticed her on left eye was extremely swollen underneath and she was unable to open her eye. I could not find the cause of the swelling and because of the extent of the swelling I decided it was best to call the vet. I got her into the vet 2 hours later and the vet determined it was an abscess. The cause of the abscess is unclear as there is no injury in the area and her teeth and ears look good. The vet put her on 10 days worth of antibiotics and we made an appointment to go back to get her checked again after she finishes antibiotics. Hopefully the issue will resolve and she won’t need further treatment. Unfortunately she is not pregnant and won’t be rebred until the issue is fully resolved.

This likely started earlier in the week and I didn’t notice it. Unfortunately with so many rabbits it’s hard to look them all over everyday. I try to take everyone out regularly to groom them and check them over but I don’t get to everyone everyday. This is something I need to work harder at to do more regularly. From now on I will be keeping my Teddywidders eyes clear of fur so I can check them more often. I really hope this resolves quickly so poor Sage can get some relief. I will keep everyone updated on her progress. 🐇

I’m sorry but can anyone blame me for being OBSESSED with this litter? 😍 this is definitely not what I was expecting from Emerald and Ash but they killed it with this litter! These babies are beautiful! Emerald has been a fantastic mom and these babies always have full bellies! From left to right: Extreme VM Blue? Doe, VM Cream Buck, HVM Cream Doe. This litter really surprised me and I definitely think we’ll have to repeat this pairing sometime in the future!

Need a theme for these babies! What should we name them? These babies are not for sale at this time. Reserv-ations will be open on 11/14! Approved customers on our waitlist will be contacted first! If you’d like to join our waitlist, please check our website about how to become an approved customer! 2 more weeks and hopefully we will have our first litter from Solstice! I can’t tell you how excited I am for this litter, not for colors but for hopefully some holdbacks with better confirmation! I will most likely hold this litter back a little longer before reservations so I can evaluate body structure but there will be some 👀🏠!

From now on our waitlist for holland lops will remain open for approved customers to join at anytime. If you’re interested in becoming an approved customer and joining a waitlist, check our website for more information! If you have any questions please send me a message! 🐇

Whenever I tell people I breed rabbits I almost always get the reply “oh that must be so easy because you know what they say about rabbits” and I always laugh! Rabbits may have the ability of reproducing quickly but that doesn’t always mean that they always cooperate when you’d like them to breed! 😂 Rabbit breeders don’t force their rabbits to breed, there’s only so much we can do to help but it’s ultimately up to them! If they don’t want to breed, they won’t. And even if they do breed, it doesn’t mean they will produce a litter or raise a litter successfully. It’s not easy, it can be stressful at times, there a lot of things that aren’t fun that we have to do but at the end of the day I love seeing the next generation being born. I love the feeling of Christmas morning every time a new litter is born. The gamble of trying to produce something specific. There’s good and bad. There’s always more to learn. But all of it is done for the love of the animals. And I hope I get to continue to do this for a long time. ❤️

I am LOVING this girl! 😍 She has a nice body and short legs! She still has some maturing to do and I can’t wait to see her when she’s ready to be bred! She will DEFINITELY be paired to our boy Solstice who will hopefully help a little with head and ears! ❤️ SLV Thyme (not for sale)
