Jess Cartel Blue surged late Saturday night at Sam Houston Race Park to capture the $56,000 Leon Bard Memorial Stakes in impressive fashion.

The 3-year-old gelding by Jess Louisiana Blue out of Cartel Leader by Corona Cartel stopped the timer in :17.675 for 350 yards while earning a 93 speed index over a muddy track.
