🍡Popsicle-stick foreign body emergencies are a sure sign of warm weather 🌞… and we had our 1st of the Spring last night! Amina must’ve figured it was just too much to resist. She recovered very quickly after her endoscopic procedure and was home shortly afterwards. Great job Cassidy and Shane!🤗

Huge sigh of relief for Beaux, he can walk again!!! 🤗 Beaux required emergency spinal surgery to repair a ruptured disc in his neck just over a month ago. We saw him shortly afterwords to begin his rehab. An aggressive approach that included pain control, acupuncture, Chinese herbals, focal Tui-na massage, and targeted home exercises has resulted in Beaux regaining use of all 4 limbs!
The recovery process continues, but his prognosis is very bright! 😌🤞

Don't tell Gunner he's in rehab therapy, ...it might spoil his fun! 💦
He is recovering really well from a TPLO procedure to repair a torn cruciate ligament in his stifle (knee). In dogs, this injury is more often seen in older dogs as a sequel to chronic arthritis. So Gunner's young age and fitness level are definitely contributing to his quick recovery! ... and Olivia's gentle, patient instruction makes his sessions a blast! 😆

We got to meet Gatsby this week!🥰 He's a 10 week old English Bulldog, and this little dude is as sweet and snuggly as they come! Omg that adorable mug!

UPDATE: Office hours till 12:30 pm today due to the atrocious driving conditions. We plan to be open for business as usual Thursday 1/15/26. Be safe out there ya’ll 🌧️💨❄️🌬️

OFFICE HOURS DELAY 1/14/26: Hazardous travel delay this morning in our office hours at Southlane due to sleet, poor visibility, and wind gusts along with iffy power glitching this morning at the hospital. We expect to have staffing by 11am - please call ahead before trekking out on the roads. Lake effect snow is expected to move in later today with winds & bitter windchills, so this weather is a work in progress.

The Greek tradition called the Vasilopita is a fun New Year's custom of baking a foil-wrapped coin in bread, 🍞and the person who finds the hidden coin is said to receive good luck for the coming year. Well, ...it's fun until the dog gets involved! This is Penny and she needed an endoscopic retrieval to remove the ingested coin (oddly enough, it was a penny!). We got it out right before midnight, so wondering if that timing messes up her good luck for the year!?! Great job Dr. Lyndsey, Larissa, and the wonderful staff at EVCC-Westville! 🥰

Last minute addition to the Naughty List!?! 🥹🎄 Pauly is the 6-month-old Dachshund puppy pictured here. He got under foot and stepped on at home last night, and x-rays to check for damage revealed that he had gobbled up a thumb tack! With the help of the wonderful staff at EVCC-Highland we were able to retrieve the tack endoscopically, and Pauly was home well before his stocking was stuffed! ❤️🎅 Great job Dr. Centeno and Jennifer!

Promising immunotherapy clinical trial for dogs with various cancers at Purdue University 💜 (Currently enrolling patients!)

✨ New Cancer Immunotherapy Trial Now Enrolling at Purdue ✨

Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is conducting a clinical trial evaluating a cutting-edge PD-L1 cancer vaccine designed to help a dog’s own immune system better recognize and destroy cancer cells.

This vaccine uses the same immune-checkpoint strategy that revolutionized cancer treatment in human medicine by blocking PD-L1, the “off switch” tumors use to hide from the immune system.

🐾 Enrolled dogs receive:
• Three vaccine treatments over 6 weeks
• Close monitoring by Purdue’s Oncology Service
• No placebos
• Access to a therapy developed specifically for dogs

🧬 Eligible cancers include:
T-zone lymphoma, melanoma, osteosarcoma, mast cell tumor, soft tissue sarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma, mammary carcinoma, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

📌 Dogs must be:
• Over 1 year old
• Over 18 lbs
• Able to undergo sedation
• Have tumors that can be biopsied
• Not currently on chemo, steroids, radiation, or targeted therapy

📅 Study duration: About 5 months
Owners must commit to all study visits and cannot pursue other treatments during participation.
