Something to think about since "Rock Salt" for melting snow & ice is scarce at the very least... Whatever rumor/information/etc. you may have heard? We have hear the earliest we could "hope" ( no guarantee whatsoever) for straight salt is end of January. So?

At this time we can offer Calcium Chloride in either pellet or flake. It melts below zero as it generates its own heat (unlike salt). 2-4 ounces applied to a square yard. will melt a thin sheet of ice at 20° F in 30 minutes. If used conservatively it goes a long ways.

It's almost that time if you are thinking about raising your own laying hens or adding to your flock. We will soon be taking reservations for day old chicks once we set a date (probably March 23/24 or 30/31). A later batch could be in play if there is enough interest.

All chicks will be ordered as pullets (female).. Varieties will be brown egg layers with the exception of americana. 3 chick minimum.

Thought You'd Like To Know................... Thistle/Nyjer Seed which is one of the main ingredients in Yellow Finch diets has become both scarce and more expensive to feed.
So- be advised that the straight seed is less available as our suppliers are using their inventories to mix their various recipes. What we are able to find will be most likely fluctuate in price.
In the meantime? We will have various blends of Thistle/Nyjer mixed with red/yellow millets, fine sunflower chips and canary seeds. This is a very workable alternative until things start to stabilize.

Canal Road under the Pleasant Valley Bridge is closed tomorrow, December 23. The three ramps that have been open are still open--the only one that is closed is the one going from Pleasant Valley Road going eastbound down to Canal Road. Please plan any necessary detours accordingly.

Update--With the early onset of winter? We regret to inform you that availability of plain rock salt is non existent unti perhaps mid- January at best. Alternatives are Calcium Chloride in flakes or pellets and urea..... with limited blends. Call 216-524-7080 for availability and prices.

Due to weather and temperature concerns, the work scheduled for today is being moved. Canal Road is open today under the Pleasant Valley Bridge, as per usual. We're not sure when the work will be rescheduled yet. We'll let you know when we have more info.
