Looking for a play buddy??

Hi there! My name is Ranger! I’m about 1 and half years old. I weigh about 39lbs.
A few things that make me special are my cute smile 😊 and my big heart. I love people and I get along with other dogs.
I walk on a leash well, I still need some practice but I pretty much got it down.
I enjoy going for walks and have good manners.
I like to play but I’m also a chill guy.
My adoption fee is $100, I have all my vaccines and I’m already neutered!

This is the face of panleukopenia, and this boy did not survive.

What is panleukopenia?

Panleuk, for short, is feline parvovirus or feline distemper. It’s a highly contagious, and often fatal virus. Panleuk is a virus that attacks rapidly dividing cells in the bone marrow and intestines, causing a major drop in white blood cells that help fight infection. When this happens, the immune system is severely compromised, creating room for other infections and diseases. It also causes intestinal sloughing, preventing them from absorbing nutrients properly.

Symptoms can include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea (often bloody), anorexia, dehydration, and sudden death. There is no direct treatment for panleuk, so intensive care is required to treat symptoms until the cat passes the virus naturally. Without treatment (and very often even with treatment), panleuk is fatal. All kitties are at risk, even the adults, If theyre not vaccinated. EVEN INDOOR ONLY CATS ARE AT RISK.

It’s transmittied through Infected bodily fluids, f***s, contaminated objects or environments; and it survives a long time in the environment. Pretty much anything, Including you, your clothes, and your shoes, can be a fomite. This Is why even Indoor cats are at risk of exposure.

Thankfully, panleuk is EASILY prevented by vaccinating your cats with a core combo vaccine abbreviated ‘FVRCP’. Adults who have never been vaccinated need an initial vaccine, a booster 3 weeks later, continued yearly to be considered fully protected. Kittens need FVRCP boosters every 3 weeks until they’re 15-16 weeks old, and then continue the vaccine yearly.

Briscoe Animal Resource Center offers the FVRCP vaccine totally FREE to ANYONE. Vaccines are offered Wednesdays and Fridays 1-3pm. Contact the office at (830)591-9229 for more info. There is no excuse to not vaccinate your cats!

Our official “No-Kill” 2024 plaque has arrived!

BARC has always been a no-kill program; once an animal is pulled by us, it’s safe. 💜

What this plaque represents is our work transforming animal control and working alongside the AC officers!

Through BARC and our partner programs; Pepe's Pals Kitten Rescue - The Catvocate and Flights To Furever, we have achieved over a 90% save rate for both dogs and cats coming into animal control!

You see the weekly code red lists, it’s never ending.
But our amazing team & programs work hand in hand, every day towards this goal for our community.

It’s not easy, but we are SO proud of this accomplishment, through hard work and your support of our efforts. 🐾

Pen 1- female, 5-6 months, 30lbs, so so sweet, very friendly, wants all the cuddles, 5/10 on leash, definitely has some knowledge but could use practice.

Pen 3-male, 20lbs, 6 months, very friendly, energetic, loves attention, 0/10 on leash, no idea what it is. Great potential, happy boy.

Pen 7- male, 46lbs, 5yrs, so so friendly, came in tail wagging, was happy to see us from the start, 7/10 on leash, seems to have some knowledge, some pulling but not terrible, dog tested well, despite what he’s going through/been through, he seems to be a very happy boy, needs some serious TLC.

CK: A- female, black, approx 8wks, ringworm. Very friendly!

CK: D-female, torti, approx 6wks. Scared but sweet.

My name is Clover 🍀, because I’m a lucky girl!
And I’m lucky because I was saved from the code red list! The people here think I’d make a good companion, and I have to admit I totally agree!

I am only about a year old and weigh 40 lbs. I’m not too big and not too small, I’m just right. I LOVE affection, so if you need cuddles I’m there. I walk pretty well on a leash already, but there’s always room for improvement. I get along with other dogs, my best pal is Bluebell!

I’m 100% vetted, including spayed, vaccinated, preventatives, and more.
My adoption fee is only $100!
