Welcome howls to you all! Summer is winding down which means we are busy gearing up for our annual Loot for Moots Online Auction and we NEED item donations!

• Do you have any Mal/Husky/Wolf/Nature themed goodies gathering dust that you’d like to help find a new home?
• Do you have vacation property—or know someone who does—and would be willing to donate a night or 2?
• Favorite adventures or sporting event tickets you’d like to donate?
• Seen something fun or yummy on Chewy or at a local pet store?
• Willing to ask your local pet supply to put together a basket to donate?
• Smaller singular items can be combined and featured in our “Bundles of Fun” offerings, so everything is appreciated!

And if you’ve got a business or company contact but feel a little shy about asking for a donation, no worries—we’re more than happy to do the begging…er, asking for you! The bonus for them? Ichabod is a 6.5-year-old, 75 lb Malamute/Shepherd/Husky mix with a gentle heart and a story that will tug at yours. 💙

His life began in a heartbreaking situation—rescued as a puppy from a neglectful hoarder/breeder case involving 185 dogs, Ichabod was saved just in time. He was placed in a loving foster and then adopted by a kind couple where he lived happily for 6 years. Sadly, after their divorce, his life has been turned upside down. He now lives alone most of the day, causing him stress and anxiety, and the home he’s in will soon be sold. He urgently needs a new home to avoid ending up in a shelter.

About Ichabod:
🐶 Neutered, vaccinated, and very healthy
🏡 House-trained and leash-trained
🐕 Enjoys calm female dogs, but could also thrive as a solo dog
🐱 Lives peacefully with a cat
🚶‍♂️ Loves leashed walks and one-on-one companionship (not a fan of busy dog parks)
🧸 Shy, sweet, and deeply loyal
❌ Not suited for homes with young children
🔒 Needs a securely fenced 6' yard

Meet Maggie — a 7 year old, 85 lb stunning long coat Akita & Malamute mix with a mellow yet playful personality and a whole lot of love to give!

Maggie adores people and craves affection (especially belly rubs and getting brushed!), but she’s also independent and knows when she needs her space — classic Malamute vibes. She's been happiest chasing, chewing, or playing tug of war with toys. She's good with meeting new people, though prefers to be the only pet in the home so she can rule as the fluffy queen she is.

Meet Gwapo – Your Next Adventure Buddy! 🐾✨

Gwapo, which means handsome (and he absolutely is 😍), is a stunning 2-year-old, 89 lb red Malamute with a heart as big as his paws. This gentle giant is full of love, charm, and that signature Malamute spirit.

He’s an adventure-loving pup who adores 🚗 car rides, ⛺️ camping trips, and hikes in the great outdoors. Whether it’s exploring nature or relaxing at home, Gwapo is all in—on his own terms, of course!

Like many Malamutes, Gwapo has an independent streak and can be a bit aloof at times—but when he’s in the mood for cuddles, he’s a total sweetheart 💕. He knows his basic commands, loves toys, and never misses a chance for some backyard zoomies 🐕💨.

Gwapo gets along with other dogs, especially females, but some males may find his size and confidence a bit intimidating. He’d do great with a calm female pup—or as the only pet, getting all the love to himself 🐾❤️.

Yukon is a 2-year-old Malamute & Husky mix who has been on a major glow-up journey—and we are HERE for it! When he first arrived, Yukon was the quiet, reserved type—keeping to himself and taking in this big new world with wide eyes. But give him a few days, and boom 💥—he stepped fully into his main character energy.

Gone is the shy guy. In his place? A confident king with a goofy streak and just the right touch of royal charm. 👑 Whether he’s prancing around like he owns the place (in the most endearing way) or letting his voice be very clearly heard, Yukon is embracing life to the fullest—and it's impossible not to smile when you see it. 😂

We’re so proud of how far he’s come already, and we can’t wait to see him continue to shine. ✨

Our story

WAMAL is a 100% volunteer run non-profit which serves Washington and Oregon. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and locations. In 2019, through an extremely generous donation from one of our supporters, we were able to open up our own small shelter where we are currently able to take in up to 8 rescues dogs. We use commercial kennels and foster homes for additional pups. The average number of dogs we have at any time ranges from 20-30, of all ages but rarely under 8 months old. Our adoption process involves an application followed by a home visit where we discuss the adoption process, answer questions and make sure applicants can provide a safe, loving and pet involved home for our rescues!

It takes a tremendous amount of volunteering to make WAMAL rescue possible and we open our homes and hearts to Malamutes in need. We are always looking for others who would like to help, in whatever form or amount of time people can donate. This organization is only able to do what we do because of this generous and dedicated team of volunteers - they truly make it possible to save the lives of this gentle and loving working breed.
