It’s the end of the month! Our first month in our new commercial space has been amazing.

Lots of big expenses are upcoming including:

-2800 dollar rent
- 430 dollar electric bill (because apparently Portland charges 300 dollars to move the account into a new name?:()
-1,000 dollar outstanding veterinary bill

These are just the big ones for us but it’s important to be transparent about the costs associated with this rescue. There is a lot of hard work by a lot of people that goes into running Avalon Microsanctuary, and we of course do have costs that are less glamorous, but super important to make sure the bunnies have a clean comfortable space to stay in, and having the security that buns will always have a place to go.

Avalon has been able to say yes so much more because of this space, to helping bunnies in need. All of the new babies we took in to bottle feed are also doing great!

A happy ending today, sweet Flip went home with to be fostered to be adopted if he bonds with her sweet big marshmallow bun, Maisel.💕😭😭

We will miss him so much but he is already such a happy camper with her, taking his first nap with his favorite dolly in her house already.

Bonding buns is a tricky feat, so he is in his own exercise pen in Maisels room for a few days and then they will have more dates ❤️😊

We’ve truly been blessed today to be able to help 5 2 week old baby bunnies.

Their mom was recently dumped in Keizer OR and the babies were found nearby. The mom was fatally hit by a car, and the entire scene suggested that she and her poor babies had been abandoned roadside.

This is all too common, and needs to stop. Rabbits do not survive well outside, and they shouldn’t have to.

These babies could still have a mom.

They hadn’t eaten since Saturday besides lettuce and were extremely dehydrated when we got them in.

All of them are super feisty, and it took me over an hour to feed them all.

The milk temperature and the mixture of the milk must be perfect for a baby. They are so sensitive.

They are already nibbling hay too, which is amazing.

I hope they continue to fight like they are.

“This sweet rabbit was in my front yard on the evening of Saturday, June 14. When I went on the community page to try to find its owner, I saw that my neighbors had been posting all day that he was hopping around the neighborhood. I caught him and posted on Facebook. I also made signs that I put up in the community. No one has claimed it, and I'm guessing someone decided they didn't want it anymore and just let it out. It is very gentle and will eat from your hand. It also loves to be petted. I wish I could keep it, but my landlord will not allow it. “

This afternoon, as I was walking around the corner I saw a carrier with two bunnies sitting in front of the building.

I thought they’d been dumped.

I promptly yelled “What the f**k!”, and then instantly regretted that decision as I saw the person with the bunnies was right around the corner.

After an apology, she explained that her parents who had passed away had these bunnies in their yard. They have been outside together forever.

They looked beaten up.

As soon as they came inside the white bunny bit down on the brown bunny and he screamed, loud.

All of the bunnies were so scared. They immediately got separated but it is so clear how much they’ve hurt each other.

This is what happens when unaltered males stay together. They fight really bad.

They are covered in p*e and scars.

They will need to go to the vet asap.

Special fundraising announcement from our newest friend Pom Pom!

We want to keep everyone in the loop about our financial situation since we definitely have been setup to struggle for the next few months due to all of the deposits and beginning utilities for our new commercial space.

We have raised about 40 percent of what we wanted to for last months 5,000 dollars needed to move into the building, and with rent coming up this month we would like to express once again the importance of donating to help us make sure we don’t fall behind.

Ideally, we would like to raise back the 5k and an additional month of rent to set aside for emergencies just for the property.

This is the best way to make sure all of the Avalon buns always have security in where they are staying.

We can’t help bunnies without you! This new location has allowed us to be able to say YES more often to those in need.

Yesterday was my 21st birthday, and also the 5 year anniversary of Avalon Microsanctuary since it became a little seedling rescue as a 16th birthday gift to me in 2020.

I got the chance to head off into the woods for a couple days to go camping thanks to some very sweet volunteers who put in the time and effort for the sweet buns so I could have a short break.

In lieu of any gifts, I would ask for donations to be put back into the rescue. Avalon is my heart and soul!🐰💕

I also calculated today that it costs us about 150 dollars a day minimum to keep things running smoothly each month for rent and basic animal expenses.

Simon update-

Simon has been doing so well on his medicine. His awful wound from the maggots is nearly closed, and looks so much better.

He still has a lot of issues including a tumor on his eyelid we need to remove and we are working on his weight gain.

Simon is so sassy, we call him little piggy because he’s such a good eater.

We couldn’t have helped Simon without your support. We have a lot of expenses this month and we are grateful to everyone for supporting us to help bunnies every day.
