After almost a year in foster care, we finally have answers about what makes Indie… well, Indie. 😆

Her DNA results came back as:

The Husky explains SO much. If you’ve ever met Indie, you know she’s equal parts athlete, comedian, and professional chaos coordinator. She’s goofy, expressive, energetic, and somehow always finding new ways to make us laugh.

As for our DNA contest… nobody guessed all of her top three breeds! But we do have two winners:

Wrong answers only: Why is Melody still available for adoption?
Be honest, are her dance moves really that bad?

At around 3 years old, this Pittie/Heeler mix has settled beautifully into home life and has been such a joy to foster. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and snuggly. Melodie loves to gently scoot her way over for attention, rest her head on your shoulder, and completely melt into you. She’s the kind of dog who just wants to be close to her people.

Melodie has a wonderful medium energy level. She’s perfectly content being crated while we work full time, loves playing in the yard with the other dogs, and proudly carries her favorite toys around like little babies. She also does the CUTEST tippy-tap dance when she gets excited.

She absolutely adores children and has done wonderfully with the 4 other dogs in our home, including small dogs. She LOVES to play with her French Bulldog friends. She is house trained, crate trained, non-reactive on walks, and walks beautifully on a prong collar or Sidekick Halti (videos available). She can be strong puller on a regular collar or harness.

She truly is such a loving, fun, easy companion and deserves an amazing home of her own.

Melodie’s adoption includes a virtual or in person training session with to set her up for success (not that she has problems, we just want her adoption to be great!).

We're going to say something uncomfortable.

Over the past few months, we've had THREE dogs returned to our rescue in morbidly obese condition. We're not talking about a few extra pounds. We're talking about dogs who gained 10+ pounds after adoption.

That is not okay.

Somehow we've normalized overweight pets to the point that people see a healthy-weight dog and think they're too skinny. Meanwhile, obesity is one of the most preventable health issues facing our pets.

Extra weight puts enormous strain on your dog's body. It increases the risk of arthritis, joint damage, mobility issues, heart disease, respiratory problems, diabetes, and certain cancers. It can dramatically reduce quality of life and literally shave years off a dog's lifespan.

If a dog came into our care emaciated, everyone would immediately recognize it as neglect. Allowing a dog to become morbidly obese is no different. Both involve failing to meet a dog's basic health needs.

Not sure if your dog is overweight?

🐾 Look at them from above. They should have a visible waistline.
🐾 Look from the side. There should be an abdominal tuck behind the ribcage.
🐾 You should be able to easily feel their ribs under a thin layer of tissue.
🐾 If you can comfortably rest a dinner plate on your dog's back, we've got a problem.

One of the easiest ways to prevent obesity is to measure food accurately.

🥣 Use an actual measuring cup.
🥣 Measure every meal.
🥣 Level it off or even shake a little off the top.
🥣 Remember that treats, chews, table scraps, and enrichment items all contain calories too.

Most people are shocked to learn how little overfeeding it takes to create significant weight gain over time.

As always, every dog is different. If you're unsure what your dog's ideal weight should be or how much they should be eating, consult your veterinarian.

Our dogs deserve more than love.

They deserve healthy bodies, comfortable joints, easy movement, and the chance to live the longest, happiest life possible. 🧡

We’re sharing these numbers because one of the most common things rescues hear and see is: “I reached out to ___ and they won’t help.”

Every dog needs a *foster home*, funding, veterinary care, and ultimately an adopter. When those resources are full, we cannot responsibly take more dogs in. Adoptions aren’t happening. Dogs aren’t moving. So we aren’t taking in more.

We’ll continue posting an orange heart for every intake request we receive this week to help illustrate the reality private rescues (& all shelters!!) face every day.

The longer Lovely stays in foster care, the more confused we become.

At 3 years old, Lovely is somehow still looking for her forever home despite being one of the easiest, sweetest dogs we've had the pleasure of fostering.

She loves everyone. And we mean everyone. People, dogs, cats... if you're within tongue distance, you're probably getting kissed. Her tail does the cutest little circles when she's excited, and she's never met a stranger she didn't immediately want to be best friends with.

Lovely has become incredibly close with both her foster brother Goose and her feline friend Poncho. She spends her days playing chase, grooming her friends, patrolling the yard, and napping with whoever is willing to cuddle. If one of them gets up, she's usually right behind them.

She's crate trained, walks nicely on leash, and is a respectful houseguest. Meal times are one of her favorite events of the day, but even after finishing her own food, she'll simply sit nearby and watch the others eat without trying to steal a bite.

Currently, Lovely is on a weight-loss journey and already making great progress. She's getting leaner, stronger, and enjoying her daily walks along the way. Just don't tell her she's on a diet - she firmly believes she's a lap dog.

Mostly, Lovely just wants to be near her people. She'll follow you from room to room, supervise every task, and make sure you never have to be alone if you don't want to be. Sweet, funny, affectionate, and endlessly lovable, Lovely is ready for her forever home. 🧡

Indie has received exactly zero meet-and-greets in the past year. Zero. The hardest part about finding Indie a home is that a camera can't capture her personality.

Indie isn’t just a good dog. She’s FUN.

She’s the dog who makes you laugh daily with her antics, gets excited when you grab the leash, and approaches every new adventure like it’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened. Hiking trails, UltiMutt Races, doggy daycare, breweries...she's tackled it all and has come to enjoy every bit of it.

When the adventure is over, she’s more than happy to curl up on the couch and recharge beside you.

What makes her story even sweeter is where she came from. Indie survived being dumped on a highway, lived on her own for months, and yet somehow she still greets life with endless optimism. Every hike, every car ride, every new experience seems to make her genuinely happy to be here.

The right person for Indie isn't looking for a dog that sits quietly in the background. They're looking for a sidekick. A trail partner. A source of daily entertainment. A dog with personality for days.

And trust us...Indie has PLENTY of that. 🧡

RUBY IS OFFICIALLY BENIGN!!! 🧡

We just received the pathology results from Ruby's second and final mammary mass surgery, and once again, the results came back BENIGN.

It feels like a miracle.

When we pulled Ruby from the shelter, her prognosis was extremely guarded. She arrived with extensive medical needs, massive mammary tumors, and so many unknowns hanging over her future. We prepared ourselves for difficult decisions, hard conversations, and outcomes we couldn't predict. Instead, Ruby has blown every expectation out of the water.

She has fought through every surgery, every appointment, every recovery period, and every obstacle with a wagging tail and a heart full of trust. Not only is she a fighter, but she is one of the sweetest, easiest, most good-natured dogs we've ever had the privilege of helping. Everyone who meets Ruby falls completely in love with her, and it's impossible not to.

Today, we're celebrating. We're celebrating clean pathology reports, successful surgeries, second chances, and one very special dog who refused to give up.

Here's to Ruby. To resilience. To hope. And to the bright future that is finally waiting for her. 🧡
