You can be the reason a shelter pet gets a second chance today. ❤️
We currently have 7 open dog kennels which are going to fill up fast! We need help reaching our goal of 50 dogs adopted by tomorrow- we are at 17 so far.

Here’s how YOU can be a hero for homeless pets today:
🐾 Adopt — Nearly every dog on the adoption floor is included in our Dog Days of Summer special where YOU pick your adoption fee…even if that means $0.
🏡 Foster — Even a short break from the shelter helps pets decompress and creates much needed space for incoming animals. Ask our adoption team about fostering to adopt or slumber party fostering an adoptable dog!
📲 Share — One share can put a pet in front of the exact person looking for them.
🦴 Donate — Donations of small blankets, tools, supplies, or monetary gifts help us continue caring for hundreds of pets every day. It costs about $15 per pet, per day just for basic food, water, and shelter needs.
🙌 Volunteer — Extra helping hands make a huge difference for the animals and staff.

Right now, you truly have the power to save lives. Every kennel opened, every post shared, every adoption completed gives another pet a chance at safety and a future.

After 300 attempts of trying to capture a cute photo of Tallulah, this is the best we could do.😂

This wiggle worm is 6 months and 12 lbs of pure "LOVE ME" energy. She is ready for unlimited snuggles and forehead kisses.

It’s the final day of bidding for our 6th Annual Warm Paws Warm Hearts Art Auction! We want to highlight a few pieces - the purple Potwin house is still completely open with no bids yet:

We donated a few of mom's (Betty Fox) art pieces to the Helping Hands Humane Society art auction, currently underway. Apologies Mom for not remembering the names of these pieces, which I know was an important thing to you. The notes with the names have gotten lost, but the art lives on and hopefully, they will all go home with somebody! Her item numbers are 536-542. Betty Fox was a lifetime member of Topeka Art Guild and a lifelong artist, specializing in pastel painting.

We would love to see these pieces land with community members who will truly appreciate them, and 100% of winning bids will help the animals we care for. Bidding is open until 8pm tonight! You can view the pieces in person at HHHS from 11:30am-6pm today.

Whose dog wakes them up far too early on the weekends? 🐶⏰🙋🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

Demee’s been dreaming about a family who needs a fuzzy, 90-pound alarm clock. Or maybe she’s one of those dogs who likes to sleep in! We don’t actually know since we haven’t gotten to see Demee outside of the shelter environment. ❤️‍🩹

We do know this sweet girl with one eye loves the time she gets outside of her kennel to spend with volunteers. We would love to see her get out of the shelter and into a home today! We will be open from 11:30am-6pm, and Demee is available to adopt, foster-to-adopt, or slumber party foster as she remains up for adoption. Please come and visit if you’d like to meet this gentle giant!

Odette needed a break from shelter life, and we're so thankful she found a Slumber Party Foster! ❤️

Here's what her foster family had to say:

"Yesterday she started taking biscuits from my hand. She's still a bit timid but very calm in the house. She parked herself on the dog bed pretty much immediately.She hasn't had any accidents in the house. She's mostly been following me around the house at a distance, but she's starting to close the gap. Today was the first time she chewed on a Nylabone. She's been pretty easy overall and has mostly been catching up on rest."

One thing we hear from foster families again and again is how much some shelter dogs sleep during their first day or two out of the kennel. After weeks or even months of shelter sounds, routines, and activity, many of them finally get the chance to truly relax. A quiet home, a comfy bed, and a little patience can make a world of difference.

Fostering doesn't just help us create kennel space, it helps dogs decompress, learn about life in a home, and show us who they really are outside the shelter.

To everyone who has fostered, fostered-to-adopt, or taken a dog home for a Slumber Party during these busy times: thank you. You are helping shelter pets more than you know.🫶
