On Mother's Day, Miranda began her 2 week foster-to-adopt period with a local family. Unfortunately, they didn't clear it with the landlord / in-laws first. 😩 They're allowed to have a dog. Just not 100 # Mastiff.

But, they reported that Miranda "was the perfect dog while she was with us!" No accidents, no jumping, no growling, and loads of cuddles!!

This girl has been with us for more than 3 years! Just waiting for her own humans. She truly is a "gentle giant". Miranda doesn't mind other dogs around but can be selective of her playmates. We DID find out that cats are an issue. Said, "she wants to play or something with them. That was the only time she barked!" We know that she is great with kids. and has even been walked successfully by a 6 yr old little boy. No pulling at all.

I'm just so sad for her right now. And kinda pi**ed about other rescues that won't take their dogs back!! It is clearly stated in our contract that they WILL bring the dog / cat back to us AT ANY TIME after they adopt so that we know the outcomes of our pets.

Short story: 18 months ago, these two, Marilyn & Davina were mortal enemies! Today, they're buddies. They play with each other and, as you can see, they will even share a bed!

📣There's no quick fix for fighting pack mates. It took more than 6 months before they could be in the same room with each other if one wasn't crated. But with consistent rules, boundaries, & limitations they learned to tolerate each other's company. Several months of that and they began to show respect for each other. A couple months ago I saw them running around the yard with each other. And a couple weeks ago, they were sniffing each other's mouths and one gave the other a little lick before walking away. 🥰

If you have fighting pack mates or you want to introduce your old or current dogs to a new dog (especially if they're all adults); don't try this on your own. PLEASE 🙏🏼consult a professional Dog Behaviorist or Trainer that has experience in this area of behavior modification.

What does a dog overheating look like??
The only reason I knew what was happening is because he was to the point that he couldn't control his legs enough to stand or walk! And it's not like it's really hot, yet. There's a nice breeze blowing...So I was letting him do his thing until, suddenly, it was almost like a seizure. Pretty scary! I wish I would've been able to get that on video, but I was in too much of a rush to cool him down! It's totally my fault. I didn't think about the heat on a day like today. But with exercise, a day like today can be just as dangerous as those 100° days we'll be having in another couple months.

So, be the advocate for your dog. Be the parent. Just because they look like they're having fun and are fine, doesn't mean they are.

So, give regular water breaks and if at any point you feel like they may be getting too hot, make them take a break and cool off. Or take them somewhere like a creek or pool for a cooler activity.

If your dog DOES exhibit signs of heat 🥵 exhaustion or worse, stroke; get them cooling off as fast as you can without dumping them in ice. (That's too cold, too fast) If you feel like he's not improving then wrap him in a wet (not damp, wet) towel ensuring their pits and groin is getting wet and some air; and get them to a vet fast!

This baby, Bobo, doesn't care to be in water that much. But he had no issues with me spraying him down with water. But that wasn't enough! I thought we were going to the ER for a min there! I ended up dumping a bucket of their drinking water over his little body and grabbed some cardboard to fan him. While fanning him, we also made sure that his little pits were getting some cool air. After about 5 min of doing all that, he was getting back to being himself. I could almost hear him saying "thank you" as he stared at me fanning his body.

So be careful folks. Don't let your dog overheat. They can only sweat through their paws 🐾 and pant. That doesn't do them much good when they continue to run or exercise.

Reputable Breeders tend to have waiting lists for their puppies.

That means, statistically, at least 1 of those puppies will end up homeless or at the shelter. 😒🐾🫩

Alright everyone! We sold all 100 squares for the game tonight! Thank you so much to my SIL, Michael Mason for working hard these last couple weeks to sell every square on the board! That means a cool $300 to the rescue!! And at the end of each quarter, we'll announce the winners. I'm going to try to remember to go live with each announcement. But if I forget, I will post the names in the comments here!
