👑 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗛𝗔𝗜𝗟 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚! 𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗭𝗘 👑

Our Halloween Pet Costume Contest has officially come to an end, and we have a winner!

𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗭𝗘, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗿𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿!👑

We have a feeling being crowned King wasn't much of a stretch for this handsome boy. 😂

His owner shared a little about the king behind the crown:

"𝘏𝘦'𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘺. 𝘏𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘴! 𝘏𝘦'𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘣𝘰𝘺."

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁? Maize has actually saved his owner's life twice. ❤️ Talk about a hero worthy of a crown!

We were lucky enough to receive some extra photos of His Majesty, and we couldn't be happier to share a few more glimpses of this very good boy

Thank you to everyone who entered, shared photos, and voted! We loved seeing all of your amazing costumes and the pets behind them. 🐶🐱🐰🧡💜🧡💜

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲. 🥹❤️

Some stories remind us exactly why we do what we do. 𝙋𝙝𝙤𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙭'𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢.

On Labor Day, a plea for help was shared on Facebook for a dog who desperately needed someone to step up. Everyone was closed for the holiday, including us, but we knew we couldn't leave her there.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘅 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗲, 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟯𝟰 𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀. 𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲. She needed more than a safe place to land. She needed time, nourishment, medical care, and a chance to heal.

𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙬? JUST LOOK AT OUR GIRL. 😭🥹💗

Phoenix has climbed to over 50 pounds and is still gaining! She's making progress, filling out, and getting the care she should have had all along. Despite having been horribly let down by humans; she is the sweetest, happiest, goofball of a dog. 🤧

𝙎𝙝𝙚'𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙮𝙚𝙩, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚.

Phoenix's story is a reminder that sometimes, all it takes is someone willing to say yes when an animal has nowhere else to turn.

We want to keep being that place. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲. We rely on the generosity of our community to provide food, medical care, and second chances to animals who need us most.

𝗜𝗳 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘅'𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁, 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲.❤️

Welcome to your next chapter, Phoenix. We're so glad you're here. 🥹💕

📜 TAR History: When Disaster Struck

𝗢𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟳, 𝟭𝟵𝟳𝟯, 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗼 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿. 💔

In the early hours of the morning, 𝙖 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚 tore through the shelter at 640 Wyman Road. The cause was attributed to an overheated furnace, and the damage was devastating. 🔥🔥

𝗘𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 — 𝟭𝟬 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟴 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀 — 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀. Twenty-five adult dogs were rescued by firefighters and temporarily moved to a nearby meeting hall. 🚒

But even in the aftermath of such a heartbreaking loss, the work of caring for animals did not stop. 🫡

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝟴𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗱. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗼 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱. ❤️

By October 1973, the shelter was preparing to reopen its newly remodeled facility at Wyman Road. The rebuilding effort included 37 cages, with plans to accommodate up to 48 adult dogs and 40 puppies, kittens, and cats at full capacity.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯. ❤️

Today, we honor the animals who were lost, the firefighters who saved lives that morning, and the people who worked to rebuild so the shelter could open its doors again.👨🏽‍🚒
